No Buying Toiletries In September Challenge!

Thanks to trudij for preparing last months (where this has been loving copied from lol) and here goes for another successful month - GOOD LUCK!!!
Well, believe it or not, it's soon the 1st September so here we go with the NEW THREAD!!
This fab challenge was set up in January 2010 by katie clampet
Here's her original challenge post:
"No buying any new toiletries, cosmetics, pefume etc... until I have used up ALL the ones I already have. I got a huge amount of (really nice) stuff for christmas but I am going to resist the urge to browse Boots, Asda, Superdrug etc, and pop another tub of cream, face scrub, shampoo or conditioner into my basket. I reckon the stuff I have will last me until possibly June. I have decided that the money I save I will put into my special holiday account.
Anyone else?"
Lots of us have taken part in the challenge over the past few months and are making great progress reducing our stashes and unnecessary/excessive spending.
Come and join us for the month of September. The more the merrier!!
Regulars ignore this, but I thought a quick resume might be helpful for newbies;
Why not add the challenge to your sig as a reminder?
How about taking a bit of time to do a stock-take and see if there are any gaps in your stash that you might need to spend on this month? Some of us set a budget for the month for essential purchases or to help with withdrawal symptoms, others like to go cold-turkey!!
Remember the challenge is about making the most of your money, enjoying your products, finding which products really suit you best and are worth buying, giving yourself a well-deserved pampering and breaking the habit of buying for the sake of buying. In money-saving tradition, it should also be about making your products l-a-s-t as long as possible ( although the temptation of using an unloved shower gel extravagently to finish it off is sometimes too much to bear!)
Brand new products ( or opened perfume) sell well on ebay
Unsuitable products can be used for other jobs (shower gel/ shampoo as handwash etc)
Some items can be returned to certain stores for exchange (for essential items or gifts!!) without a receipt
Unwanted items can be recycled as gifts or for gift hampers (saving the money you'd have spent on gifts)
Unsuitable items can be donated to charity as mentioned earlier.
It helps to avoid the places where temptation lurks for you; be it QVC, Boots, Bodyshop, the supermarket toiletries aisles, grabbit board, online toiletries browsing, seductive department store beauty counter offers etc. Remember retailers are making offers and promotions all the time, so there'll always be another deal!
Good luck all for September and remember to keep popping in for inspiration and support.
Welcome to all newbies - the more the merrier :hello:
Good Luck Girlies :j
Useful abbreviations!
WIBA - Will I Buy Again
UU - Use Ups
WNBA - Will Not Buy Again!
Glitch - when a shop/online store make a pricing mistake so you end up paying less or even get freebies!
PYN(M/T/W/Th/F/Sa/Su) DELETE AS APPROPRIATE! - Paint Your Nails Monday/Tuesday...... it allows everyone to try and finish those dastardly nail varnishes with group support! You can never be too groomed for this thread
Splutterer - the stage where an item is nearing the end of it's life and spluttering - also the most annoying and seemingly never ending stage!
If anyone can think of anymore we can add to the list so newbies won't be intimidated by our jargon! :hello:

 Here's my ever shrinking list. I'll add the Mally stuff I just bought when I'm sure I'm keeping it. I'm also leaving Dental out because it's not frivolous or reduceable. Red is for UseyUppys Green is for stuff I chucked out because it's years old and doesn't suit me anyway! Purple is for new purchases this month, and Grey is for the eye pencil I appear to have lost.

Perfect 10 Used up!Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted. Einstein0 -
OMG! to the above LOL!
Follow that!
I'm still here for September. Not much of a stash left, but trying to keep to the principles of use-up, use-up, use-up!
Hopeful that the bar of unlovely soap in the shower that I started at the beginning of the year and use intermittently will, with concerted effort be out of my life by the end of the month. It has become something of a symbolic reminder to me of this challenge, but also a reminder of my roots and the twin facets of my character as it sits alongside my Clarins £43 eye cream. LOL!!!!0 -
Well here we are in September and as it's only three months away we'll all be no doubt thinking about the C word. I am going to be strong and try to keep some of the L'Occitane goodies I bought at Cheshire Oaks last week for my sister for Christmas.
This morning I have UUed a 75ml tube of Daisy shower gel. Thought I may as well get this out of the way as the lotion had all gone already. On the go in my bathroom right now (as I love variety) are the following sets of matching shower gel and body lotion:-
Tommy Girl, Philosophy Amazing Grace and Body Shop Love Etc.
I have a L'Occitane Almond shower gel (must remember to decant some off for the holiday in October as MrM enjoys using this on holiday), half a bottle of TBS Cherry Blossom shower gel and a newly opened Philosophy Cinnamon Dots shower gel.
Body lotion wise I have open: TBS Almond and Garnier Summer Body. I want to use these two up by the end of the month.Back for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. I pledge to only buy when I run out of a product that is not already in my stash no matter what wonderful emails land in in my Inbox or threads I read on MSE re: glitches!

Am in again this month, will get around to entering my stash at some point this month! It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

I know my list is getting shorter because it's getting a bit quicker to scroll past it now! :rotfl:
It's because I'm not stashing or stocking up on anything. I buy what I need and some (:o) things I want, but they're to use now not put away.
There's a very real chance that when my birthday rolls around next June I may be in actual real immediate need of Shower gels etc!:D (I use my birthday as a stocking up opportunity usually.)Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted. Einstein0 -
Afternoon all - I am in again for September - stash slowly reducing - now have 1136 items left to use! So although I do still cave in now and again and add things at least the number is decreasing rather than continually increasing.
Did I read that the blank Sunday on the QVC listings was going to be a beauty day? Oh dear - will be on the thread for support that day then! I resisted the Decleor and Philosophy TSVs which I would have just done without thinking before joining the thread so that is good but on the downside I did cave in and buy the Elemis TSV - mainly because it had a 30ml size of the pro-collagen oxygenating night cream which is gorgeous. Now I have to use 5 items before I am 'toiletry neutral' in Sept and can then start reducing again. I do have quite a few splutterers so hope to manage this quite easily.
My latest UUs include:
Clarins gentle soothing mask - WIBA? not in a full size - this was GWP and was ok but didn't inspire me to commit to the full size - I prefer the Elemis exotic cream moisturising mask which is lovely and leaves your skin really soft
Gatinea firming throat gel - WIBA? yes but am planning to use my Liz Earle moisturisers as my neck cream until they are all UU although I have filled a Gatineau collector card so may get a neck gel free from that so wouldn't technically be buying......and it does feel to be doing something when you apply it.
L'Occitane foaming jelly - WIBA? no as the honey smell was too strong for me. I am not a big fan of honeyso it just didn't do it for me.

Afternoon all, lovely new thread! Hopefully I will have something to put on it, other than the box of green tea I finished this morning. My stockpile is still, er, stockpiled, but at least I know I buy so much less now.0

:oCan I join too please?
I have too many toiletries - don't think I need to visit anywhere resembling shops that sell any toiletries this year - albeit it I've only got 1.5 toothpaste and a couple of deoderants so min spends! Might buy them tonight as I need to go and do a monthly shop - trying to get the free 5p off litre of fuel in Sainbury's if still on and that will mean spend in August not Sept?
Although I'm not into your higher costs things I've got plenty of shower gels to last maybe til 2012?
Been using some of the stacks of body moisturisers for the last few nights so using them a bit - still no UU though. Hopefully have a few UU by the end of September.

Hi welcome to the gang. I find it really helpful being a member of this thread - it does make me think more before I buy, especially as I have so many things anyway and want to get my stash down to 1000 items by Christmas.
We've all got loads of things to use up on here - Boots, Body Shop, QVC TSVs etc.0
