    Good morning all!

#8 in the bag for yesterday - delighted, although I wasnt feeling good at all yesterday and came home at lunchtime and went to bed.
Back on firing on all cylinders ( see, keeping in with the bike theme)
today. Have got a sticky gingerbread in the oven as a surprise for OH. Its his fave and Ive not made him one for ages. Got a small shop to do this morning - mushrooms, garlic, milk, carrots and a birthday card for MIL. Trying to postpone big shop till Monday!
BDINI - well done for moving on to your next project - I bow to your dedication!:T I know how you feel - if you're in the mood and motivated by a goal then it makes the job a lot easier! Good luck for the weekend - make sure you treat yourself to some nice pampering after tho!;)

Keiss - thinking of you - hope things pick up soon ((((hugs)))))

    Have a lovely day everyone:)

you will always be rich enough to be generous.
  • Hi

I'm intrigued by the NSD thing so thought I'd pop in and see what its all about? Can you explain what qualifies as a NSD? If I have to pay bus fare to get to work can I still count it?

    Different people count different ways.

For me, just about anything and everything I have to find money for is a 'spend' - but I'm very much in the minority here I think. (I exclude 'social life' which isn't much but is unpredictable as to when it'll be spent, and 'garden costs')

At least one person doesn't count groceries as a spend, as they're budgetted for elsewhere.

I don't think many people include work related expenses such as travel or equipment needed, so you excluding your bus fares to/from work would match them :)

Re NSDs, as CW says, you set your own rules. For me, any day where money leaves my purse or my bank account is a spending day. I try and plan my spending for days when a direct debit is due out. Other people say that if the item you spend money on is in your planned monthly budget then that's ok, they can count that day as a no spend day. Therefore, they just count days where they have not succumbed to temptation to spend on unplanned things as NSDs. Either way, you are still spending money throughout the month, but by planning what day to spend it on you are thinking about the proposed expenditure, and sometimes it makes you think "do I really need this? can I make do with what I have already?"

Just set yourself a target and see how you go. If you don't manage to reach your target you will not be tarred and feathered as each day that you manage to keep your hard earned and ill gotten in your purse is a mini triumph in itself. The F word ( as in sshhh "failure") does not exist. Anyone caught using it will be dealt with most severely........

Re daily bus fares - if you draw out a set amount of cash to cover the week's fares on a Sunday/Monday, then you can count the other days as NSDs because the money is already set aside for that purpose. Obviously that doesn't mean you can go out and squander money on buying coffees, cakes, magazines etc every single day - the challenge is to limit these items of expenditure and include them in a planned spending fund of some kind. After all, even amidst paying off debts and finding money for ever-increasing bills, we still have to have some kind of life. (Even if it's a sad one like most of us on here - you should see the shenanigans we get up to on our outings!)

  • Well any money I save will go towards nice things for when the baby comes so I've got a good incentive not to spend any money I don't need to.
  • Morning All

Back to work to-day. All sunny and bright but roads are a no go as the Pope is visiting, so will work from home.
Hope you're feeling better Keiss, as Spoon says time.
Will I get murdered if I say I hate motorbikes, nasty, noisy dangerous things?

hopefully another one for me to-day, will confirm later

Dont mean to be rude or ignorant, but wots meant by black dog?

Also well done with ur NSD's, u keep it up. :)

Hope ur feelin a litte up now..
It's depression Chris....thanks for your kind words.
((((((((((((big hugs Keiss))))))))))))), hope you are being kind to yourself & start to feel a little more up soon.

Number 8 for me today, paid to post a book i sold on greenmetropolis, but not counting that as i have already had the money for it :D

Getting so much easier to do now i'm not buying DIY bits all the time & thanks everyone for the kind words about the kitchen, looking round now (even without the doors), i am so happy i did it & it was worth all the hard work to have a fab finish on a budget :j

Daren't tell you all i have moved all the living room furniture into the new dining room & am starting on the living room this weekend *shakes head at own [STRIKE]stupidity[/STRIKE] motivation
Thanks for your kind thoughts butdoineedit.

Well done on your kitchen...crikey, getting stuck in on another room already!! Mind you, I can understand trying to get things done before it gets too dark/wet/cold. We are supposed to be re-decorating the conservatory, but needed to get the kitchen sorted first so we could empty the "spare" cupboard in the conservartory, then Freegle it. Now we have a bit more space (well, the tumbler has returned from its summer in the shed :o). Stil trying to decide which red to paint the walls...want a rich warm one. As there is lots of wood (both stained and painted) the red won't be overpowering. Both DH and I are home this weekend so we may get a start on it proper...hope I will feel a bit better by then.

Picking up another NSD today :j. Have made a list of things to do, so hope to get through a few today, and more tomorrow. I do have a tendancy to try and do too much, so must resist...sewing here I come :D.

PS Spoon, that makes 9 NSDs now!!

Hi Helena and welcome to the madhouse that is the NSD thread.

Have a look at Nargle's and cw18's posts above, they will give you some ideas. If you would like to join in "unofficially" this month and just keep a tally of how many you get (just to see how you get on) you're more than welcome to keep posting and I'll put your total on the front page to give you a bit of an incentive. If you want to set yourself a low-ish target to start off for the rest of the month, that's fine too. We don't bite (well, not unless very hungry or suffering from PMT - females amongst us only, of course), so ask any or as many questions as you want to, there's usually someone around to chip in.

Only one thing is forbidden on here - we dont "fail" - whispered because BMF gets cross at the use of that word...:rotfl::rotfl: - we just "'don't quite get there", but in our book any NSD is a good one.

If you'd like to join up, just put a post on with the number of NSDs you'd like to aim for and I'll add you to the front page. If you would like me to keep a total for you, happy to do that as well. Just let me know - I'll be doing an update later today.

    Hope that's OK.
