My tip for using red lentils is to get them in a saucepan of water & start them cooking while you chop the veg & dry-fry the mince. As the water comes to the boil I skim off the scummy stuff with a spoon, turn down the heat so it's a gentle simmer then add the mince & veg & carry on as usual. Because they've had about a half-hour 'boil', the lentils literally disappear into the mince & you'd never know they were there. I learned this method after a few bad experiences where the lentils stayed hard like little bits of buck-shot
but now The Offspring don't batter an eye-lid
Good Luck x
Thankyou 4 the tip bigmumma will deffo try this as bought all the lentils , chickpeas and likes as most reciepes in the slow cooker cookbook my mrs bought (£3.00 brand new from the bookman at her work, BARGAIN) has many reciepes wiv these sort ingredients in so its trial and error.
