Is the tension set ok for the thread. I had this prob with denim and I had to set the tension looser with the heavier fabric. I have a Toyota. Mum and dad got it fir me when I was 11 :) it's 25 yrs old :), weighs a tonne and it's a basic machine zig zag and straight stitch, nothing fancy.

Not sure if that's any help.

I did treat myself today to the one in lidl. :)

sorry another question about the journals , whats the best glue to use for sticking fabrics and would you use a different glue for paper. would a glue gun be best?

and when you glue the fabric/paper, do you put glue on the whole thing, ie the outer cover and spine or just on the inside where you fold it over

sorry can you tell i am new to all this.

    Not a problem Julie03,
when making the journals i use UHU it's a strong (and smells it too) basic glue that is clear so suitable for paper or fabrics, I don't put any glue on the front and back covers, just the edges that i then fold the fabric or papers onto,

I don't put glue on the front and back covers purely because i have done it in the past and i feel it can make the fabric horrible with some glue spots showing through or going lumpy,
Because the front and back cover are covered tightly no further glue is needed hunny.

Glue wise, a glue gun is always a great option for both, you can get glue guns in poundland just now, I also get the UHU in poundland which you can use with both paper and fabric, obviously if your choosing an other glue, i'd advise as long as it's strong or really tacky at the start then it should be fine for both paper and fabric (not like nursery school type glue :rotfl:)

    Hope this helps hunny, :T

ginger - thanks for that tip about UHU and how you use it...........there's me getting through tons of pva and pasting everything all over -back,front,inside, out...........you name it I paste it..............lol Then take absolute age smoothing it all out...........been lucky so far with no bumps but think I'll try UHU next time.:)

OH been out and got turkish delight and some other sweet that I have no idea about............lol Just need him to do the fudge now for the ''fudge kebabs''..............then might have a go at the washing up kebabs.
I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

:rotfl::rotfl:Glad to have helped Mary-Op, but just the insides need glue'd hunny, The fudge kebabs sound lovely, I'm thinking of making some fudge instead of the jams etc, as i simply don't have the jars for it, think that will be a next year thing.
I saw some jams and marmalades in my magazine (forget which one) that had the fabric covered lid's and a little manilla label with 'Spread a little love' written on them, I thought that was just the nicest thing ever so think i shall write those on the label visible side. :D

Thank you so much for your ideas and advice. Himself has ordered the Big Eye beading needle for me- I don't do ebay myself , just get OH to do it. Am a bit of a wuss with that!

Will be trying the looser tension on my sewing machine as well as a better thread my class tutor suggested. SIL's bag is ready but so busy with all these projects haven't photographed them yet.

Also decided in view of men's sweaters continuing to be such dreary colours to knit one for OH in a lovely variegated chunky yarn. Am sitting there knitting whilst tv's on and it hasn't dawned on him what I'm doing! Hope it doesn't as I'm an awfully bad liar! It's knitting up very quickly so hopefully it'll be done in time for his early December birthday. Does anyone else have the hassle of December birthdays on top of Christmas?

Definitely going to start in January making stuff for following Christmas - famous last words!

Then there's all the garden stuff to order and flute practice for the Carols with my Quire.

Whoever said they wonder where they ever found time to go to work once retired hit the nail on the head!
