  • Hi folks,

not sure if this has already been covered, but I'm looking to make soaps and bath bombs...have looked at a couple of websites and the packaging costs are pretty high, any recommendations as to how I can cut down on these? My mum has a fair few essential oils, she's not touched them in years, so I'm hoping to rescue them :D

Also hoping to wrap them in clear cellophane wrap and tie with christmas ribbon...any suggestions about where to get this? (the wrap)

noticed on an earlier post that some folk have bought chocolate moulds in Lakeland at around £6-I bought two for a pound each in Poundland :D

Debt Nov 07: £10k give or take
    Debt July 09: £0 :T
Back to uni September 09 (2 year course)
Aim: try and keep debt to a minimum

    Hi,
Good for you, they will be lovely presents, I get my ribbons from http://www.craftyribbons.com/ they have every type of ribbon you will ever need and their prices are good too :T
How about using scrap papers, or xmas wrapping papers, if your doing a soap sqaures, wrap it in good xmas wrapping present neatly, they get some corrogated card or brown paper (a roll £1 poundland) (old boxes maybe) to wrap around the centre (like a chunky corrogated ribbon) like this http://www.etsy.com/listing/61799028/sample-soap-collection?ref=pr_shop and then tie with jute twine, you could add a mini bauble, or button onto the twine, you could even use white paper to wrap then do the centre with old book pages, or newspaper to give it a clean modern feel.

    OR

Buy a large bag of sugar :rotfl:get some lovely paper (folding wrapping paper until it's of a good thickness and sturdyness) then wrap the bag of sugar securely leaving one end open, slide out the bag of sugar so your left with the wrapped shape, glue on some ribbon for handles or use wire, tinsel or twine and your have a free or nearly free gift bag (saw this in my latest craft magazine, they used gold xmas wrapping paper) you could store your soaps or bath bombs in here, why not use some plain papers or the brown parcel brown wrapping paper from poundland and hand stamp it with xmas'y stamps ?

OR failing that, this shop has the corrogated card 1 metre for 75p and a metre of cellophane for £1.99 in various colours

Good luck, cant wait to see your pictures xxx

Sounds like you had fun doing that. I was going to do it this year with brown paper until Aldi brought out some with brown paper and a lovely reindeer on it :)

Does it depend on what's in them? if there is cream then it would not keep as long.

I have made some bath bombs this year, will make more on my week off. I got jars from the poundshop, some of those smoothie cups from the nice man at the coffee shop, and some iridescent shredded paper. Some I have put in the smoothie cup. Here is a photo

when i think about it does anyone have any melt and pour soap inspirations? i have used lavender and oatmeal (not together lol) as i tend to like natural things in soaps but if anyone can offer any advice it would be appreciated x

  • i make an iced wintermint soap, its rather refreshing! i use peppermint oil, and sometimes embed a leaf of mint into the top layer
i am not a fan of mint when cooking so only grow a wee bit, so it depends if i have it or not

    i also do a lemon/orange or lime
i use dried & crushed rind on the top to act as an exfoliator
