How long did it take you to make it do you think? *pondering if I'll have time to make one on saturday morning lol*

I guess it took about 2 1/2 - 3 hours once the dough had chilled for an hour. Main problem was only being able to put 2 trays of cookies in the oven at the same time. I suppose you could make them in advance and store them in an airtight tin before putting them together?

Hmmm that might be a plan... I could make a couple a night :) I'm just trying to work out if it would be a nice "extra" pressie to bring to a wedding on saturday :) Would you think a cookie tree would be a nice present? all done in white and sparkly... :)

  • Hi,
    Fantastic cookie cake!!!!
I also think it would make a lovely and very original small present at a wedding. Good idea!
Am just planning on what to do tonight once kids are in bed. Have a huge lit thanks to all the christmas threads going at the moment.

    Hi Sally,

I used the recipe from the back of the box, which is fine but I may add some spice to make it more Christmassy. I am also going to try green icing as per the box, or find something different to act as baubles to give it more colour. I will also make sure I roll the dough to a thickness of about 4mm as I made the largest ones first and they were thinner, hard to handle/keep in shape.

I would also leave out the glycerin from the royal icing so that it sets harder and make sure it has set before building up the tree - we are trying to eat it now and I am having to use a knife to separate the layers!

It took a while to make, but I now have a clearer idea, so would advise a trial run if you can find the time. HTH :)

Oooh could you post the recipe please! I have a set of star cookie cutters similar to lakelands and was going to attempt to do a mini version at some point!

Answer to my own question is here! http://www.lakeland.co.uk/recipe-ideas-vanillacookies

I considered that too, a trial run and taste testing session is definitely needed!

Love the cookie tree! I feel really Christmassy every time I visit this thread! :D

Ive made another Xmas gift today - my fat rabbit - (still need to finish it off with a removeable santa hat and a few other finishing touches.) Its not very Christmassy so not sure if I should be posting in here or not. It is a Xmas present though. :o

Phew, glad I read new posts as I saw your request whilst at work and was just settling down to type in it! Thank you for saving me ages! Can settle down and watch last Thursdays Nigella with a clear conscience now, lol! :T
  • I ordered some of those cutters from Ebay and am thinking about doing a cookie tree for my mum as a little extra. Would you recommend putting it on a cake board and wrapping in cellophane or can you think or a better plan? :D

Hello all, I've spent a lovely morning in the kitchen. I've made some muffins, fed my Christmas cakes and had an attempt at the cookie Christmas tree. Took a while to make and there's a few things I will do differently when I make them as gifts, but overall, I am happy with the result. :j

Oh this is FAB! What cutters did you use for this?

I just had a thought that maybe if we put a small hole in the middle of each cookie then they could be threaded onto something like a skewer. That way they can be easily threaded off when it comes to eating?

I guess a test is the best way :D. I really want to make this for the table centrepiece :D
