£3.75 at Iceland on frozen mince, carrots & onions. I just took a few portions of frozen stew out to defrost so I could fit the mince in! Even though I've only got a few pieces of fruit to buy at the weekend I've still overspent this month, but at least I've stocked up on some approved food stuff and have a bulging freezer.

Just got a good deal on washing liquid in Mr A, 85 washes for £7.00. I got some in Mr T the other day 2 bottles, roughly the same washes for £6.00. so now I have enough washing powder for about 6 months!!!

Got £40 a week now until next instalment on 15th October. should be fine as I have bought all the meat and dry ingredients that I need for meals, so just fruit and veg, yoghurts milk bread etc.

This thread has really got me focused, so thank you everyone.

In honesty, i have no idea exactly how much we have spent so far this month..but out of the £200 we have £40 left..logic would dictate we have spent £160, but i think we have used some money for other things which aren't GC related...so i need to sit down and work out what I have actually spent! Either way, we're doing ok!
We have meal planned until mid next week, and don't need anything to cook the meals on the plan! Going to try to cook up some more apples to freeze tomorrow, and might even do us a crumble for pudding tomorrow :D
Need to stay focused! But when i pop into Sainsburys to use up the till spits (and buy more nappies and washing stuff!) I may get distracted...aragh!! Anyone know where sells blinkers??????!
Well done everyone, even if you are over or struggling, keep posting as you are doing far better than you would be if you weren't checking in here...(I know that applies for me!) Will now read back through thread!!

Is this a stir fry kind of sauce or a heat up and pour over ice cream kind of sauce :rotfl:
I got some sweet ginger sauce in Mr M clearance last month, and plan to use it in a batch (or 3) of Twinks. I did a version using powdered ginger which I loved, but I think the sauce will be even better (and make them softer/stickier too, which is how I like them) :)

:j managed to get the freezer defrosted today. Had planned on cleaning upstairs up but seen as it was a nice day and the second freezer is outside in the shed decided to defrost it as hate being in the shed when its really cold, wet and windy. Am so glad its now done and obviously now there isnt as much ice in there I can fit a few more things in:rotfl::rotfl: found 12 mince pies from Christmas, half a malt loaf and some fish cakes that had forgotten about.

Also saved over £12 today as we were going to go out for lunch. Its two courses for £6 and more than enough to eat. However when we got there it was full as there was an 80th birthday party going on and it was rather crowded. DH didnt fancy any where else so we came back and had a ham roll with some HM tomato chutney and we have cooked a nice meal tonight, sea bass, veg and some small potatoes. So in the end it turned into a NSD :T and we enjoyed a little ride out in the sunshine.

Shopping tomorrow and also need some milk, am planning to spend at least £30 as have a voucher for £10 off a £30 shop if its not that much will put mums shopping through with ours and sort it later.

Only 8 more days to go for this month and then back to the challenge properly and hope to reduce the amount by a little more in October.

  • in the middle of having gas central heating fitted thanks to Warm Front grant. Still can't quite believe it is all free. We could never have found the money for all the work that has been done. Normally scrape ice off windows in the winter so am hoping to be a bit cosier this year. Never had gas before so have no idea how much it will cost to run; will need to keep VERY careful eye on meter readings. Otherwise all our 'saving' on groceries will disappear. Once we know our approx. usage will be checking comparison sites for low tariff.

Having grandsons for the weekend so all the serious cleaning:eek: will have to take place next week. The workermen are very tidy and hoover up but EVERYTHING is covered in fine brick dust. Any volunteers for an autumn 'spring clean'?:rotfl:

Spent £13.36 in Tesco today, but almost half of that was for 2 x 900g packs of minced beef for £6, which will go towards loads of meals. DP thinks we will go over this month, as we only have £33.77 left from the budget, but I don't think we will, with all the food we have in the freezer and cupboards we won't starve, so I don't really need to go shopping for much more. Having said that I will be going to Aldi tomorrow for some of their cereal, it's similar to Jordan's Country Crisp but only 99p a pack and is delicious, usually get a couple of chocolate and a couple of strawberry, hopefully I won't get tempted to buy anything else!
