  • I have 4, all adored, and honestly we would have had 2 more if the finances would have allowed, we had to think with our heads not our hearts. DH had 'the op' after a much wanted dd arrived after 3 much wanted boys. Probably will always regret not having another one.... My mum always says 'You will always regret not having a child, but never regret having an unplanned child' Not sure that helps....

I would really like to know your opinions on how you know when your family is complete i.e. when you don't want any more children. Is there some point when you no longer think about having another baby or do you feel broody until the menopause?

I know we are so blessed with the two gorgeous kids we have and I would never love them any less with or without additional kids. But, do you just feel... I don't know how to express it... Is it just a feeling because youngest is growing older that you feel nostalgic or something? I did always say I wanted three children but pregnancy really sucks so I started saying well two is enough, especially as we have a boy and a girl. But now I feel... less certain. Not certain enough to rush off to try to conceive right now. But more... in a few years' time, maybe I'd quite like another baby. Would I?

I'm kinda half seriously thinking, maybe I should start a baby fund and in five years' time I won't feel broody any more and have a few thousand to spend on whatever. Or not. I guess I feel in a sort of silly mood right now and logic has taken its leave for tonight. :)

After the first child I realised what caused it and took action. Now I sleep right through.

I have 2 children and adore them both, however, I knew after my son was born that I didn't want anymore. The sleepless nights, the teething, the tantrums, having to fetch them from nursery half way through the day etc. Both of my babies are at school full time now and me and my husband finally have some sort of recognisable marriage, we can leave them with their nan overnight without having to worry about bottles, nappies and all the bumf that goes with it.

I was sterilised in January of this year age 30, the hospital were very reluctant to do it but I knew after my son was born in 2004 that that was that. I wanted no more and now I can have a relaxed happy sex life without worry.
  • I suppose all those breeding like rabbits and pontificating that they do not claim anything from the government never get around to posting the child benefit forms then ?

They also presumably deliver the baby at home, themselves, without any medical attention, insist that the child never go to the doctor or to school, or use any state subsidised transport system etc.

Or perhaps they are one of the magical minority (current number zero), who simply start paying more taxes in proportion to the additional kids they have, thus if they pay 5k and have 1 child, they will volunteer another 15k in tax to cover the other 3 kids.
  • My ovaries twanged at the picture of Florence Cameron, but we have two children and won't be having any more. It took a long time to decide but ultimately we didn't have the cash for three.
A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.

Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels.

Because I thought 'how would I feel if I got pregnant again?' and I felt like....I would cry for about a week because I would hate to be pregnant again and I haven't got any money. So our family is complete. Oh and Im 43.

This barely merits a response, but who will pay taxes to provide you with a state pension when you claim one, or are you forgoing your right to that?

And do you buy any medicines privately and use private healthcare?

Or you could raise beautiful children that will grow up to be a doctor, dentist, midwife, fireman, policeman, solider, pm, nurse, Can you put a price on that?? Assuming that one day you will need one (or all) of them. Lets face it us 'rabbits' keep the world going round:rotfl:

I have 2, a boy and a girl. I went thru a brief period (few weeks) of broodiness for a third. I know what caused it, several women I knew with a boy and a girl, became pregnant with their planned third. this sounds totally bonkers, especially since I was in my late 30s but up till that point I'd never realised people did that. I thought people had 3rd children only if they already had 2 of the same sex, it was a different relationship or an accident.:o I recall my mind playing on wondering what sex I would have next.

We had a holiday to Florida coming up in 9 months time for my hubby's 40th. This hol had been planned for 6 years and saved for 5. No way was I being pregnant on it or cancelling it, and unable to act upon these feelings, I discovered they went away as common sense kicked in. I didn't want another pregnancy, our 1st had gone drastically wrong when we discovered the baby wasn't going to live and due to this I can never 'relax' when pregnant. I would have to have another c-section (am wrong shape to deliver). I have a boy and a girl and a 3bed house, so we would either be extending or moving (more expensive mortgage) or sharing (less space). With a 7 year gap between me and my sister, that I always said I wouldn't repeat with my own kids, I did think what if the 3rd was a boy and the same sex kids had the biggest gap and it repeated what I disliked about the age gap of me and my sister. I knew I would want to return to work one day and working out childcare costs knew with 2 in school hols it would cost me most of my wages, with 3 it would cost me more than my wages. I also have several friends with 3 kids who had mentioned to me the expense of 3x everything.

So that's how I knew that my family is finished.
