If they have used a Clubcard then Tesco should contact them and advise them that due to a regretable error they have been overcharged by a significant amount and offer them a full refund. If they have used their credit card without a Clubcard then they should refund them. For those who have paid cash without a Clubcard then they should consider a poster seeking them out.
They way I was treated was a disgrace. In the first store I had to argue with three members of staff and in the second I was asked to leave having been overcharged. Tesco should remember that a criminal offence has been committed - BY THEM. Trading Standards across the country should take action unless Tesco correct the situation themselves. If I get no joy from HO then I will fill out a Small Claims Court summons and we'll see.
This is an excellent post which I fully agree with. This is the crux of the matter, really. If Tesco know they have illegally overcharged many people (which they do), and have the power to rectify it (like going through their till records and refunding everyone they overcharged) then they are culpable of stealing money by deliberately failing to do this. Hence the huge amount of "black profit" which has been referred to before.
So why aren't the authorities prosecuting Tesco? I believe it's all to do with the law in this country, which is horrendously skewed in favour of the big corporation. It's very rare that a big corporation has criminal charges brought against it. Just look at the way the fat cats running the rail companies are not brought to account for train crashes (e.g. Hatfield) which were caused by their decisions to illegally cut back on safety measures in the name of profit. The government has a very cosy relationship with big business - they live out of each others pockets - and they'd hate to ruin that by blowing the whistle on their dirty behaviour.
Did you know Tesco sponsors the Labour Party conference? Or that "Sir" Terry Leahy is employed by the government on 4 different task forces? (Oh yes, and it was Labour that made him a Sir in the first place). It's all one big Old Boys Club. You scratch our back, we'll scratch yours.
Tesco are crooks - they overcharge hundreds of people every day and fail to make automated refunds to peoples' cards despite having the power to do so. The same goes for many other big companies. But their behaviour has been "normalised" by the fact that the powers that be don't do anything about it.0 -
Update on my case from last night....Plushchris wrote:Ok just had a failed attempt at R&R on a Xbox 360..
I put the display case and game in my basket along with a couple of other bits and went to the checkout, the guy scanned the game and a few of my other bits then said "oh, you have to go over there to get this" when he picked up the xbox I said "yeah I know" then he said "thats £45.60 please" panic set in "you havent charged for the Xbox?" says I "no, you have to go over there, they have put a sticker over the barcode so I cant scan it"
Anyway, stupidly I paid up and got in the CS queue, sure enough they charged me the full price for the xbox (£279) when I said I had been overcharged she said it wouldnt have gone through because it was two transactions!
I did say that I had tried to pay for them both together but couldnt, she was having none of it, she gave me the £20 and said thats it, she cant honour the offer as I didnt get them both at the same time.
I didnt wanna kick up too much fuss as I can always take them back for a refund and try again taking both game & xbox to CS
But by offering me the £20 did she not admit I had been overcharged?
Whats the best thing to do? take them back and try again or fight over this one?
Well, I took the xbox back to another store first thing this morning and got a full refund no probs then went back to the store I got that one yesterday and was pleased to see they still had all the relevent SELs and posters up!
So I went and bought another one and the game, this time taking it straight to the CS desk to pay for it.. BINGO! no discount!
Walked out to the car and checked my receipt (as you do) then proudly walked back into the store, first she tried saying it was just on the core system then I got offered the £20 then after pointing out the promise she went off and spoke to the manager - came back to say "yeah your right, you can have a refund on the game so you get that for nothing" so I pointed out it was bought as a bundle then she phoned the manager, then had to take the SELs to show him and came back with a bit of a red face and gave me the full R&R! :T :T :T
It did take about 45mins in all of standing and putting my point across but I think I can live with that for £320 worth of stuff!
THANKS TO ALL YOU GUYS ON HERE!Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
Good for your Plushchris, it sounds like you had a reasonable CS experience there, at least once the manager was involved...0

Yeah, obviously he told her to refund on the game first (suppose you cant really blame him for trying) but yeah, it was ok, not to much of an arguement and no HO involvement so thats all good!Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -

Ben500
you seem to be very knowledgeable when it comes to these matters, can I pick your brain for some advice, please?
I sent a recorded delivery letter to customer services on 28th august to complain about a specific Store Manager & his underling. I have received my reply from CS stating they have referred it back to the store to deal with and the store will be in touch.
Firstly, I wouldn't of thought that any store is about to investigate itself and find anything wrong with its self (in particular when it was senior management that the problem was with.) Secondly. how long is reasonable to allow them the right to reply?
The dismissive tone of the letter from CS makes me think this is going no-where! but I am not prepared to back down.pinkpinkfizz

After posting on here last night I took the advice and went to my local to check out if the Xbox speciual offer posters were still up. Of course they weren't, but the consoles had returned. Nevermind... I managed to get 4 finest beef joints though which were overpriced. CS rang manager and he was lovely. Apologised, said he had to some of those earlier in the week and doesn't understand how they could have had returned.
Upon my return I was desperately trying to keep up with the thread (you guys are soooo busy!!!)and read that someone was suggesting I'd have a look at Baldock. It was too late last night so I pakced up hubby and baby this morning and have a route around some Tescos. Our first stop was Royston but no luck. Signs are all up but there are no GOTW anywhere. We got lucky at Baldock thougha nd got an Xbox 360 with GOTW (signs were still up) but discount wasn't applied. I went back in (I must admit I was shaking!!!) and went to CS starting with "I believe I have been overcharged. The two ladies looked at me and teh Xbox, turned around and started whispering. I was told to hang on for a min and she got on teh phone to talk to the manager (she was whispering on teh phone and covered it with her hand so I couldnt hear what she was saying) while the other one went off to take a look at the signs (it was the one at the bottom of the games charts!). She returned and apologised for the error. She said that the sign shouldn't have been tehre and someone "messed with the signs". She proceeded to offer me a £20 refund to which I pointed at their R & R. She said tahtwouldn't apply since the sign wasn't supposed to be there. I said that surely wouldn't matter since it was there when I bought it and I wouldnt have bought that combination otherwise. She said there was nothing she could do. My husband (who I had brought in for backup) asked to sepak to teh manager but she said she has spoken to him and nothing would change. They offered me a full refund but I said I'd take it up with HO.
I'm sure I read teh answer to my question many times in this thread but I can't find it anymore so please SOMEONE HELP!
WHAT EXACTLY DO I DO NOW? I have the box, teh game and the receipt. I went back in teh store after they had refused the refund and they had taken all teh charts down.
Thanks for the person who pinted me to Baldock - please respond so I can thank you!
It was me
Well done.........pleased for you

While I was standing waiting at the CS desk this morning I started reading the photo printing leaflets they had on the counter (the ones that say how you can get nice tacky picture of your cat printed on a T-shirt etc)
Noticed on the back of it a LONG expired offer on digital cameras, didnt have chance to go have a look as was busy getting my Xbox R&Red but might be worth a look if any of you are interested.
Will get the leaflet out the car later and post the offers (think it expired 6th september or thereabouts)Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -

A branch near me still has a pile of the leaflets on the CS Desk with 50 points on Organic Fruit and Veg - expired on 30th June!
They also have POS all round the store saying Double Points On All Organic Products - expired some time in mid August.0 -
Hi all. This is the first time ive posted on the site so im not sure if im in the right place or not. But hopefully someone can help me. I bought a nintendo DS with game of the week today & was not given the £10 discount. Went to customer services only to be told by junior manager that i could only have refund on the game & not the game & console as package. I told him he was wrong but he wouldnt back down so i said i wanted to speak to the manager only to be told he wouldnt be back instore until thursday which oddly enough is the date that the offer ends. Can somebody tell me if im right & should i persue this. I have been given the number for customer services head office. Should i phone them. Can anyone advise me.0
