How can Tesco get away with doing this????

    Are you a regular R&Rer?

I'm not but I know if i cross into my local extra they are just waiting to ban me and Ive only ever had 2 R&R's out of there. i have witnessed senior managers behaving in the strangest manner when i go in I feel like a V.I.P the way the run to watch me!! :rotfl:

Next time I go I might take my local paper reporter with me, either that or my lawyer!!

Yes I'm somewhat of a regular. My first 'large' R&R was thanks to you (thanks once again) with the BT Zenith misprice. In the first store that refunded the DS I had an R&R a few weeks ago for £156 for two Motorola phones (expired 10% off promo) so the manager there knew me. I'd never been in the second store before and will be reporting the manager to HO first thing Monday and also to TS for refusing the £20 refund that I am legally entitled to. If he had refused to return my receipt I would have called the police and had him charged with theft. He was very rude and I shall be pointing out how I was made to feel like a criminal in two stores. I am devastated and feel as though I about to have a breakdown (only because I couldn't visit any more stores!).
  • 481, He has goofed up big time and given you more rights than you actually had when you were in the store.

First of all he overcharges you, then he hides evidence, then he proceeds to refuse a contractual obligation to refund you all of the amount (tesco promise), then he refuses to give you your 20 quid after the transaction was complete, and finally he asks you to leave the store without a proper explaination opening himself up to no end of discrimination claims.

I had a similar experience to many today.

A chart poster with Lego Star Wars as GOTW

and a smaller SEL with SAVE £20 when you buy a xbox or ???? console and GOTW.

    Three misprices in one!

Has anyone else come across the smaller 3in x 2in label and if so do you have a photo of it please.

    Thanks.

I have a photocopy of the save £10 PSP and save £20 Xbox label. Says on it 'Expires 28/09/06'. I can scan it if you need it.

    WOW ! ! !

Theres some reading in this thread.

A big thanks to all the contributors as there is soooo much info its gotta be invaluable.

I've only ever had the odd book, jar of coffee or packet of cheese refunded as an r+r over the years - even though I read the forum daily the opportunity rarely presents itself as the wife does most of the shopping and its in/out asap with her.

We bought the White Xbox this morning with the GOTW (Just cause) as it offered a discount of £20 and was high in the chart (no.1 I think) according to the shelf numbering - for one of our sons who has a birthday next month.

I paid for it an instantly and new it was an over charge but waited till we got outside to let the wife know, predictively she said bring it back and get the £20 refund but I decided to wait and consult this site first as a r+r should be offered but frankly was uncomfortable with how to handle it seeing as my biggest r+r had been £10 - years ago.

On returning home I was surprised to see so long a thread about just this one misprice alone which gave me confidence to return to the store.

It should be said that my prime reason for buying electrical items from Tesco is because of their customer service - I bought my first dvd player in 99 which stopped working after 3 months and they simply replaced it without any hassle and i've been a dedicated customer since buying numerous tv's, microwaves, videos, dvds/recorders, kettles, blenders and indeed my sons original xbox ever since because if something goes wrong you can bring it back - as simple as that.

On returning to the store this afternoon I eventually got the duty manager who was extremely polite but made one excuse after another to avoid this dilema and tried to put me off till Monday but when I stuck to my guns and pointed out the refund and replace sign she eventually sanctioned the refund.

At all times I kept my cool but again I say the lady handling me was very professional, polite and even friendly which certainly made it easier but despite using my clubcard I was made to give my full details which unnerved me a little - a result all the same.

I spend thousands each year at Tesco because of policies like this.

    Many family members do also.

I dont check every price, as I buy into the fact that they state they do.

And when they're wrong on most occassions they admit it allbeit after a disscussion.

But for those that face bad staff what can anyone say, bad is bad ! - but if Sainsburys (which I really like) had as good cs policies, I may shop in their store, but I dont - I stick with Tesco because of the R+R setup and similar policies (their clubcard point system is understandable).

So for any of the managers who post or read in this forum I'd like to say ta, thanks for being understanding and cooperative and those that aren't will only cost Tesco the business in the long run.

My end result was ok but reading this thread tells others were not so lucky.

No price mistakes = no refunds, simple as that.
Its not what happens but how you deal with it thats matters.
    Every little effort/helps counts.

  • I have noticed in my stores recently that R&R's are getting much harder to find, and get cs to pay out on.
Is this because of the fiasco with the consoles and games, and subsequent value of all these R&R, therefore stores are being more vigilent, or
Are Tesco staff finally monitoring the mis-price thread as a matter of course.

Price stickers on dvds/cd and games are becoming rarer than hens teeth.
Offer posters on console and games seem to be extinct
19 out of 20 of the mis-prices posted, I cannot find in my circuit of stores - no sel at all, or is correct.
Even the odd ones I do track down - like yesterdays Felix and 3 for 89p chocolate, cs will not cough up on.
None of my store even have the signs up for mulit-buy offers on Walkers, Wotsits etc.

Finally managed to cheer myself up last night with a smallish R&R ( TFF cd, hidden behind correct ones;) ), and another small one today.......but the amount of time hunting for others is scandalous, :p

Working scanner tonight, was 2 aisles away from games/cd/dvds, so it looks a bit much to repeatedly go and check prices - and if there is no sel or sticker, I cannot get an R&R anyway

Meanwhile tonight I spotted 2 fellow MSEs - I think.
One was handing over a WAD of receipts to have the points added onto the club card.....and I mean a wad !! cs never said a word ! Presume someone has been wombling;)

Other was getting an R&R on some dividers - coloured, don't know how many. I think the prices quoted were 1.97 charged, box they were in said 1.96.
I will post this on the mis-price in a minute

I did check the price of the book by Kim ( cleaning lady one) and it does scan correctly at £9.xx - as sticker says.

I might go back and check out those dividers tomorrow :rotfl:
  • prices will always be wrong in my opinion. If the prices in your store are correct then it goes to show how effective the R&R policy is. Without this policy you can bet your bottom dollar their would be alot more of them.

Talking of which, I was a bit miffed to hear of people being banned from stores, banned from doing refunds and generally treated like a criminal. The fact you are actively working for consumer rights should have a bearing on if you can enter a store or not.

So, I was thinking, how strange it is that consumer rights should be treated religiously and yet if consumer rights were ingrained into religion the rights of those practising it would be protected.

I decided to set up my own religion, it is called the church of consumer rights. It is now illegal (human rights act articles 9, 10 and 14) for anyone to ban me from a store from expressing my religion by actively seeking pricing errors as long as I do not break any laws in doing so. It is also illegal (data protection act) for anyone to store and transmit data sensetive to my religion and on how I practise my religion.

Just a bit of fun really as I never intend to use it (shouldn't have to!) but it is my religion now and it might just come in usful one day. Im even knocking a website up so I can point manager in the correct reading of rules etc.
