Free LIme Energy Saving Plug (merged)

I tried out my freebie LIME energy saving plug yesterday and at first it seemed great to be able to switch on and off the TV, digi-box, DVD recorder and video recorder all at the press of one button I had 'assigned' (the On/Off) on my remote control...
But then, with all the units switched on, I pressed the TV On Demand button on my remote, and the whole lot was switched off again.
I switched all back on and tried again. This time I pressed the TV Guide button on the remote, and the same thing happened..
Rather than me assigning one particular button on the remote, as the instructions indicate, it seems whichever button you use (even to merely change channels) the LIME plug is activated and everything is switched off.
What is the point of it?
All I actually needed to do for the same effect (turning everything off stand-by for a few hours), is to flick one switch - at the wall socket.
Are these energy-saving plugs, especially as promoted as a government initiative, just to make it look as though 'someone is doing something' eco-wise?
I cannot see why they are generally necessary, unless someone has difficulty bending down to a wall socket.
Perhaps what little benefit they may bring, is completely offset by the huge waste of resources used in producing and promoting the things, when the vast majority of us could do the job ourselves.

mine works perfectly, and only with the button i specified. did you set it up properly?I love mine, at the end of the evening I can switch everything off with one remote and in the morning the same. If I switch it all off from the plug my sky box takes ages to re boot itself but with the lime plug it comes straight on in the morning.
If its so useless then dont use it ?
totally agree, i have two, one with my TV and DVD and Digi box plugged into it which uses my TV standby button the TV remote. and another which my laptop charger, phone charger and wall light and plugged into which is triggered by a random button on my TV remote that i dont use. both work perfectly and allows me to cut the power to everything without having to get out of my warm bed on a cold night.
pa_5, i'll gladly take yours off you if you dont want it0 -
DISCONTINUE USE
I got an email today saying to stop using it as it is unsafe and the prongs of the plug have been falling out in an unsafe manner and that they will be sending out replacements along with a return envelope, so if you have recieved one I would reccommend you turn it off and unplug it to be safe until your replacement arrives.0 -
I received the same email. Thankfully I hadn't set mine up yet, so it's still in the box!
TBH even if I had been using it and found no problems with it so far, I'd definitely stop using it straight away and get it replaced. You can never be too careful when it comes to this kind of thing and although I love my freebies, they're not worth risking lives for!!!0 -

Just to add...
The email I received (see below) specifically mentioned a particular batch no, so I don't know if all batches are affected, but if you have one of these it'd definitely be a good idea to look out for an email from "Grass Roots". There's a phone no and email address if anyone wants to check about their particular model no.
Product Recall Notice – Lime Energy Saving Plug (Model ES1017)
I am writing to inform you that we have found a potential safety problem with a batch of the Lime Energy Saving Plugs, Model Number ES1017, which can be identified via the label on the back of the plug. This email will be followed with a letter, which you should receive in the next few days.
The problem was identified following feedback from a very small number of customers who had experienced some problems with the individual pins of the plug that either fell out or remained in the socket when unplugged.
This problem could potentially lead to an electrical hazard or exposure to live electrical parts.I strongly recommend that you stop using the Lime Plug and turn off the wall socket power switch before removing it.
We will be sending you a replacement Lime Energy Saving Plug of a different model to replace your existing one and will endeavour to send this to you within 14 days from the postal notification that you will receive shortly. Along with the replacement plug we will include pre-paid packaging for you to return the original plug for its safe disposal.
I would like to reassure you that no other Grass Roots products are affected.
If you have passed this plug on to someone else, please would you also pass on this notice.
I apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your co-operation in this matter. If you require further advice, please contact our helpline on 08448 – 795160 or alternatively contact us by email on [EMAIL="limeplugrecall@grg.com"]limeplugrecall@grg.com[/EMAIL]

Hello,
thought I'd start a new thread as it was mentioned on the previous thread but if you've already got one you might miss it!

Sorry I missed it. Might be an idea to bump your original thread so that it stays in the same sort of area as the one advertising the free plug?[STRIKE]£2200[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£1950[/STRIKE][STRIKE]£1850[/STRIKE] £1600 on my credit card
