hi neenaww a normal remote will do the trick. You can then just leave that lime socket permanently "on" and just activate it with the remote button you just assigned

Overall I'm quite pleased with this device, although my results have been mixed.

First Try - Television
===============
Old CRT television with replacement remote control :: Did not work : could not switch off - it switched off momentarily, then came back on.

Cheap Digibox controller :: Did not work . . . . I cannot remember the exact result details.

Video recorder controller - original Panasonic :: This worked fine.

Second try - computer equipment
========================
I'm using a Denon HiFi remote to control the computer equipment :: this works fine.

Conclusion ( for my case )
====================
Correct functioning is dependent on the controller output.

Consequential research
=================
I must find out about the technological details of these hand controllers and specifically why the cheaper/replacement one(s) did not work with the Lime energy saver.
