Trying for a Baby Part Six

Only way to be reasonably sure is checking BBT temps.
Ok, so whilst I'm waiting for my doctors appointment (which is in 3 weeks) charting my temperature is going to be the best way for me to get an idea as to whether or not I'm ovulating?
Sorry if I'm asking too much information of you. This is all very new to me and I don't yet understand that much about the baby making process other than the basic birds and the bees stuff - guess I need to get reading.
One other quick question - if anyone would be kind enough to give me a rough idea.......
As I'm not having periods which would be an inidcator as to whether or not I could be pregnant should I be waiting a certain period of time after doing the deed before taking a test. Just curious really - I don't intend to test regulalry as I don't expect anything to happen too soon but I will probably do a test before my doctors appointment just to double check I'm not pregnant - in case they want to do any digging around.0 -
Yes. But to catch ovulation (to get pg), OPKs are great:cool:Ok, so whilst I'm waiting for my doctors appointment (which is in 3 weeks) charting my temperature is going to be the best way for me to get an idea as to whether or not I'm ovulating?
You can chart temps online at places like FertilityFriend.
Here's my chart: http://www.fertilityfriend.com/home/286900
You should test around 15 days after ovulation. If you don't know when you ov'd, then just test before you go to the doctors:oshould I be waiting a certain period of time after doing the deed before taking a test. Or if you really feel pregnant:p0 -

You and I both! I'm not having to ask questions because you (and a few others) are asking them for me!
I must say - we learnt rhythm contraception at school and again last year for our marriage prep classes and I always thought I knew a lot about by cycle. Turns out I do not even know how to count before or after period!
Ladies who know cycle inside out/when to test/take temps etc - I take my hat off too you. Because this all looks like hard work to me.
I only just found out this morning (via a poster above) that you wait until a missed period (or expected) to test. I thought you could test as soon as he rolled off:rotfl: (not that I have been....)0 -
Oh and I must be... CD15? The first day of my last period was 5 April. Is that right? Does that mean I have already ovulated this month?
No wait - it's counted backwards? Oh dear.... If there was a test you took before you were allowed to even TTC (I know the lingo:D), I guess I would be told to get a cat:(
Right, I'm confuzzled. I last started my period on the 5 April 2011. What are my ovaries assumed to be doing?
I do apologise for the simplicity of my questions. I'll get it eventually.0 -
That was when we moved in - it's not quite that bad any more.
Once you mow that, it'll be heaven:)
I didn't really know much before I started tracking my cycle. And even though I was tracking my cycle for two years before TTC (for pregnancy avoidance purposes), I'd say I've learned more in the months since starting TTC than I had in those two years. I think you learn more once it becomes important.I must say - we learnt rhythm contraception at school and again last year for our marriage prep classes and I always thought I knew a lot about by cycle. I make you CD16. If Apr 5=CD1 then take four away from the date to work out your CD. (Until the month changes.) I think the "average" woman is supposed to have a 28 day cycle and ovulate on CD14 but I don't think anyone is average. I think in the first part of your cycle, a few follicles ripen and then one releases an egg and the bit left behind is the corpus luteum. Not sure what happens to the other follicles but the corpus luteum I think can be something to do with hormones later on but not sure whether that's just if you get pregnant or whether it does something in a normal cycle. I have no idea what the ovaries do (or even if they do anything) between ovulation and the next cycle.Oh and I must be... CD15? The first day of my last period was 5 April. Is that right? If Apr 5th was the first day of your last period, then that makes you CD16.
IF (and only if), your cycle follows a typical pattern, then you would have ov'd on CD14, and now be 2 DPO (days post ovulation). But, everyone is different and very few people's cycle fit the typical cycle we are all told about so often.
For example, the first cycle I tracked, I OV'd on CD16. The next one, CD17, and am awaiting ov on my 3rd cycle now. I expect it will be different again! lolFebruary wins: Theatre tickets0 -
Like others said, you are CD16:oOh and I must be... CD15? The first day of my last period was 5 April. Is that right? Does that mean I have already ovulated this month?
If your cycles are 28 days, then you ov between CD12-18, so you may still be fertile. Get BDing!:j
As for what happens to the follicles, at first there's a bunch of follicles, but it eventually boils down to one or two lead follicle (others disappear).
It grows 1-2mm/day. When it reaches around 20mm, it pops (ov), and waits for 24-48hrs for the sperm to fertilize.
After that, the egg travels down to the womb, while the remaining burst follicle will become a corpus luteum and secretes progesterone which makes the womb comfy and keeps the temps up.
It'll remain there until placenta takes over at around 12 weeks, or disappears if no pregnancy.

I love them.
If they were a man, I'd dump OH and run off with them

Fortunately you are slim, so you don't have to:cool:0
