So I guess I’m asking if anyone with PCOS follows a particular diet (I know you should go low carb) or if anyone has any experience with the insulin resistance bit.
    Me :)
I went for a scan (for something else) and they found PCO, so I went back to my GP and got referred to a gynae. Gynae did blood tests (which I *think* were ok, but were only the CD2-5 ones) but couldn't do the GTT (glucose tolerance test) -told me to get that from GP. GP dutifully sent me for it, even though I've had many basic fasting bloods done before (because of the fatigue etc issues I have with the CFS/ME I have) which have always been normal. The GTT showed that I do have Impaired Glucose Tolerance. GP said it wasn't at a level he would treat though, and seemed to think Metformin was not great for PCOS...however, the gynae that I saw after that (who confirmed PCOS not just PCO) couldn't understand why I wasn't already on it! ...and ordered the GP to put me on it. I'm now on 500mg twice a day, and I've now lost 2st since first finding out about the PCOS/IGT too.

The nurse that I got called in to see when the GTT results came in just basically said (but bear in mind that I have different other medical conditions to you and am essentially unable to do any form of exercise etc) to gut out all processed foods, drink plenty of water (especially over fizzy pop etc), and cut out the carp. Healthier snacks. GP said cut down to 1200-1400. I have to say that this is working - we'd already cut out processed foods and been cooking far more from scratch for a few months, and already drunk majoritively water - but since going on the low cal diet (less processed rice/pasta/etc too) and being on metformin I've lost the 4 BMI points :D

ETA: Btw, it's less about "low carb" than it is about the correct portion control (it's surprising once you really start measuring how much a real "portion" is, compared to what you're used to - or at least it was for me) and having brown rice/pasta/bread rather than processed and more sugary white versions. The brown version also have more fibre etc and help your body process your food properly too.

I would definitely ask to have a GTT - it should help inform what dose of Metformin you should be on, and you'll get checked again to see if it's improved after a year (usually).

Always remember that you have the right to seek a second opinion too.

Other than that, I'm not sure what 'worse symptoms' you're talking about since being on the Metformin, but I dare say it's because the right dose hasn't been found yet...? Or because you're more aware that there is/could be a problem and are more tuned into it?? Iyswim?

Sexymouse, hope the GP helped, that massage/paracetamol etc helps too, and that the back pain gets better quick :) And don't forget: Dr Bigzippy is always on hand ;)

I didn't get to temp today cos I had to be up at stoopid o'clock to take DH to the train station, but I've had some pelvic pain today that feels like period pain? So I've no idea what's going on, and am having a drink regardless tbh.

Had my first high on my CBFM today, and it's my birthday, so a nice surprise! Off to work all day in about 30 mins unfortunately, but looking forward to the weekend. Moon got me the Zumba fitness DVD and toning set so I can't wait to try it out.

Hugs for those who are on CD1.

    Morning all.

Hapy birthday Mouse and hooray for the high!!

I'm CD31 today and as I don't really know my cycle length yet (2nd cycle off the pill) I decided to test....BFN, annoyed with myself as now I'm feeling all down in the dumps!! I may not have even OV'd yet for all I know!!! And I now won't see DH for long enough to BD until Monday night. Grrrrrrr!!

Ah well I have a weekend of working at the local show to look forward to.....and going on last year it's not going to help the diet much!! Good job I'm at target and trying to maintain rather than trying to lose!!

Anyone doing anything exciting this weekend?
