It was 2 months since installation till signal problems in which time trees do not grow branches to an extent when it was not blocking before and after 2 months it is. The leaves started to grow in two months since the last few months of winter when it was installed.
The tree is in my neighbours garden, and even the Sky cancellation rep admitted I had no power over trimming that tree unless my neighbour approved. In which case he does not mind having it chopped but he won't do it as it is huge and will cost a lot.
I'm sure everyone expects an installer to have eyes and inform me of the potential issues, and why would anyone expect a customer's neigbours tree would be chopped or trimed in the near future?
He should install for 12 months of uninterrupted service and not assume what could happen.
Chopping the tree is not the point other than that he was totally lacking common sense and Sky is ultimatly responsible for his workmanship.
When I first had Sky installed I was told by their trained installation monkey that I would have to have my dish at a certain height and on a certain position on my building. Otherwise I would receive no signal.
He was wrong.
"I'm sure everyone expects an installer to have eyes and inform me of the potential issues" -er no. They cannot or will not be interested in such things as all they are there to do is install a dish and make sure it works. Which it seems they did.0 -
I am sure I once read that a copper nails can kill trees.... So maybe you should buy some, and accidntly fall against the tree whilst holding a hammer"Aunty C McB-Wik"
"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO, What a Ride!"

So, this means that even if his advise was wrong, an engineer can tell you where signal will be low and good.

I got this from 'Suppy of Goods and Services Act 1982':
'Where installation of goods forms part of the contract and it's not carried out with reasonable care and skill, it'll be taken that the goods don't conform with the contract and your remedies will be as set out above. In addition you'll be entitled to compensation to cover any additional cost of getting replacement goods reinstalled properly.
When it comes to work itself, the act states that a tradesman or professional has a 'duty of care' towards you and your property.'
So when you say "they cannot and will not be interested", then it's clear that I have been fouled according to this act above.0 -
goater, maybe the site is a little technical for you, although my 13 year old son has no trouble with it.
What you do is set the pointer corresponding to the position of your dish and it returns the max height which will allow a signal , relative to the distance of the tree.
Quite simple really!!!!!!!!!
Yes i understand how the site works, its not hard and like you say if even your 13 year old son can use it anyone could (based on what I imagine is a weak gene pool).
My point is its useless. The OP knows that he can't get a signal, and he knows the reason is because of this huge tree in front of his house, therefore using this site isn't going to tell him anything new. In addition I am sure the engineers he have had round have a better idea than dishpointer.com!This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Did the original installer not install the system properly, taking reasonable care? In what way do you think they have breached their "duty of care"?

If they came, installed the dish and box, and the system worked, then they will have done what they were contracted to do.0 -
