I am so mad at my postman

I won a vinyl record on Ebay a few days ago. It's quite a rare one and I've been after it for a while. I came home from work to find it propped up against my front door.
Except it's been raining hard all day. And I do mean all day - it was raining at 6am when I left for work so there's no way it cant've rained before the postman left it. It was packaged in a cardboard mailer which has obviously got soaked, and then the rain has soaked through and ruined the record sleeve.
I know I can email the seller and they can (hopefully) claim from Royal Mail, but what kind of !!!!ing retard leaves it out in the first place?

One that thinks the seller wrapped it properly and was just trying to save you from a trip to the post office0

Unfortunately one that doesn't have any common sense0

Was he trying to save the OP a trip to the sorting office to collect, or was he saving himself having to carry it round with him until he got back to the van or sorting office?;)
Leaving it propped up against the front door is silly, someone could have stollen it!0 -

Should that have not been a "We are holding a packet/letter/parcel because it does not fit through your letter box" card kind of moment.....?0

Sorry, but imo the seller should've used waterproof wrapping. They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0

I've had things left on my doorstep before now - totally irresponsible (and illegal) by RM. The other week I had a parcel (which was a mirror) pushed through the window!! Had it not been for the HUGE amount of bubble wrap the seller had used it would have been smashed to bits. I was also annoyed that the postman would have had to walk over my flower beds to get to the window :-(
I realise that the seller has to claim from Royal Mail for the damage but I would also contact your local delivery office to complain.0
