DH is very protective of his books
At the moment they're stuck in our bedroom wardrobes, but we have a new study which just needs decorating & kitting out with shelves etc., so once that's done & the books are in, I'm hoping he might decide to part with a few...
Sounds like you're getting some awful weather up there ~ it's really wild & windy here but still fairly mild so I've been doing some tidying up in the garden today ~ I now look like I've been dragged through a hedge backwards though!!
Hope your car passed it's MOT'A watched potato will never chit'...0 -
Ah I understand being protective of books - wouldn't want to encourage disharmony in yor relationship by advocating sneaky book selling
.
I started off by listing some of my Uni books - some sold well and some had already been superceded by new editions [I was a VERY mature student!]
Car passed its MOT ta with just one small repair beforehand so thats not too bad at all.
The guy who demolished our shed and built the fence had promised to take away all the wood etc but in the end couldn't get any transport. Had a worrying few days with it as the council would charge over £100 to clear it and I'd have to remove or knock flat all the nails. In the end we found someone who took it all away in a big trailer to use in their fire so that was excellent. Had been fretting that a child would impale themselves on it before long
Tomorrow going to have a clear out of stuff in the spare room as got friend coming next weekend. Also need to do a shop as the fridge is bare and we are almost out of fruit and veg.0 -
I bet my DH has forgotten about some of the books he has, he's had them that long & he's got so many, I don't want to risk some mysteriously 'disappearing' though, it's not worth the strife!! :rotfl:
Glad your car passed it's MOT'A watched potato will never chit'...0 -
Maybe if he knew what price they can make on Amazon he might be tempted? Sadly some books have plunged to pennydom and heavy books are not worth listing unless you can charge enough to cover the postage and still make a profit.
Your study sounds good PP - makes a difference having a space to write and read etc.0 -
Pah did a nice long post and lost it so this is the short version.
- Tried to overpay a bit on the mortgage via online banking - Halifax account and Halifax mortgage. Used the payment tab and it all seemed to go through ok. There has been some debate about how or if you can do this from a Hali account. However the mortgage balance has gone up now as they have obviously added interest on so can't tell for certain that the OP got through, will have to ring them up
- Took stuff to chazza shop finally, its been sitting in a bag for ages waiting to go
- Lots of stuff taken to the recycling centre too so gradually getting cleared
- Sold a quite expensive book on Amazon today so will post tomorrow - well chuffed
- On the not so good front my back is really sore so have an appointment at the physio next week

hi teapot, I have a halifax mortgage, but a current account elsewhere, how do i get the details to pay online? im aware your still testing the waters but any help would be appreciated0
-
Which details do you mean? Your Halifax mortgage account should have a sort code and an account number and you can use those - thats what I did [mine of course and not yours :rotfl:]. It will be on any correspondence you have from them I think.
Apparently its much simpler to pay online from another bank - also watch out for any limit to how much you can overpay. Ours is 10% on an annual rolling basis and how they work that out is mysterious .0 -
Good point, Will have to dig out the annual statement tomorrow and give it a go paying online... I unfortunatly do not think the 10% thing will be a problem somehow lol.. must get a promotion or something.
Thanks:beer:

Yaay about the Halifax to Halifax overpayment (hopefully!!) ~ that is going to be soooo much easier for me than faffing around transferring money back & forth ~ let us know if it really did work
Well done on the expensive book sale ~ will that be another overpayment then??There's no way on earth that DH will part with any of his books if they're only going to make pennies ~ looks like I might be stuck with them, I suppose it won't be too bad if they all fit in the new study. Big if though as it's only a little study!! :rotfl:
Sorry to hear about your back pain, hope you get it sorted next week'A watched potato will never chit'...0 -
Yah rang the Halifax and the payment has gone through so it does work. You have to set it up online using the 'payment' tab rather than the 'transfer' tab from a Hali current account. They seem to have a new security system where they do an automated phone call if you set up a new payment and you have to input a 4 digit number on the phone that they generate on your PC screen to confirm you really are setting up a payment. Much running about as the landline is not in the same room as the PC!
That will make overpaying much simpler I hope.
