There's always been a separation between the haves and the have nots in the Premiership. But I'm just wondering if this year is the year that a chasm really starts to open up. Chelsea have scored 12 in two games. Arsenal destroyed Blackpool, Wigan have been destroyed twice already (and once by Blackpool!)

I'm concerned that we could have a situation where the top 4/5 teams disappear well into the distance before Christmas

I take it that top 5 doesn't include Tottingham icon7.gif

you probably do Arsenal a dis-service. Their match day revenue exceeds £100m.

Liverpool and Tottenham's match day revenue is around £40m each.

Arsenal the only large club run like a proper sustainable business - although what would happen if Wenger left could change things.

Possibly. It is worth noting that the Chairman (link) says:
Match day revenue was increased to £100.1 million (2008 ‐ £94.6 million), mainly as a result of progress to the UEFA Champions League and FA Cup semi‐finals.

Arsenal do turn a decent profit it should also be noted. Also I have heard them claim in the past that it would be "idiotic" to rely on Champions League football every season.

I think you will find that there many United fans of all ages, not confined to one era or area for that matter icon7.gif not many teams can claim that a foreign country declared a bank holiday because their team won the premiership ;) then again Liverpool have not really tested that one.

Not saying there is not fans of all ages, but as a liverpool fan I will not pretend that success does not bring more fans.
Do you think united have more or less fans becasue of the last 20 years of success.

Yes the premier league, the date football was invented in the UK.;)
How can united have any fans over 20 years old, football was not invented before then.:D

Just like there was no European cups before the champions league.;)

Just when will united turn some of their league domination in to Champions League/European cup wins.

    League 18 all.

    European Cup / Champions league 5 -3 to Liverpool.:D

I suspect we'll struggle this season. To maintain not winning anything and staying in Europe, Ars**al spend over £100,000,000pa on wages. To actually win cups, Chelsea spend £160,000,000 from memory. Not sure what Man Utd spend on wages but you can bet it's up there.

Tottingham spend less than £60,000,000 on wages. I am unsure whether that includes Chas and Dave's royalties.

United broke the average league attendance record in the past few years ( 76k mainly due to larger stadium), the question is who held it before then and which year was it set icon7.gif

I'm never sure where such figures come from, but I believe our highest paid player is on about £40k a week.

    Great question.

I know that Maine Road, Goodison, Stamford Bridge and Charlton had some huge attendances either side of the war. It can't howver be Man City (I think United average was higher when they had to play at Maine Road just after the war). Its not Everton, and although The Valley had supposedly the biggest terrace of the domestic English grounds (50k apparently on one side of pitch), its certainly not Charlton.

I'll go for Chelsea 3 years either side of WW2.

I'll go for Man Utd. Last 3 or 4 times the record was broken as the ground was developed, starting with tier 3 on the North Stand going back to the mid/ late 90's.

Probably right - I struggled to think of anyone who have had an average attendance above 58k in England. The striking thing about the huge attendance of the past (Chelsea, Everton, Man City > 78k for a single match), is that they could get 30k less only a few weeks later.

I bet it's the bar codes (aka Newcastle Utd).
