The Guardian is giving away free audiobooks online, every day this week (it started on Sat 4 Sept) inc. Stieg Larsson's The Girl with a Dragon Tattoo and Iain Bank's Matter. These usually cost around £15, but are totally free via this deal.

You don't need to enter any payment details or sign up for a subscription, plus you get to keep them as long as you like once downloaded.

[title=http://images2.moneysavingexpert.com/images/dp/wtd_underline.gif]wtd_icon.gif How to get them[/title]

Each day the url for the special page on Audible.co.uk - a big audiobooks website - will be printed in the Guardian newspaper, and we will update them at the bottom of this post.

You'll be able to download each audiobook for 7 days after the link originally appears.

To get the downloads, follow these steps:
  • Enter your email address and name
  • Follow the link to Audible
  • If you're a new customer, you'll need to register on the Audible site (this is free), or sign in if you've already registered. You only need to register once to get all 7 books
  • The download link for your book should then automatically appear.
  • Follow the onscreen instructions from Audible.

Same T & Cs as before
  • Brilliant! Two free books!

I've downloaded them (pretty quick) and they are now awaiting listening in my iTunes. It'll ask for your user name and password for audible before it accepts them into iTunes. I had a problem with the Armando Iannucci one but managed with ease to upload it manually by adding a file.

    Thanks to jap200. :T

    That's fantastic, thank you :)

Do you have to have iTunes or can you download straight to your media player?

  • Downloaded the first one OK, but on trying the Armando Ianucci, I sign in as an existing customer & then it tells me my basket is empty. Anyone else having this problem?

Yes, I'm having the same problem and also with the Tattoo one which I'm trying to download today. I've emailed them at the address given above.

Seems to be a problem for 'existing members' as my husband has not been able to download either of the books. I had no problem with the first one, but have failed with the second too. I cleared cookies and tried again, but it didn't help. I have also sent an email to customer services. It sounds as if they haven't got this set up quite right.

I had the same problem in internet explorer, it seems to think you are still logged on to audible and never gets to the download page. I opened the same page in Google chrome and logged in to audible again and it worked. Maybe logging out of audible might work if you don't have another browser..
