    It's very obvious really:
    1) Tenants renting from LLs who are letting out something that has been their primary home should have less legal protection than tenants renting homes that their LL has never lived in.
    2) The priorities of the court system should be overhauled so that eviction proceedings take precedence over all other cases, so that LLs don't have to wait.

Where oh where has that rolling eyes smiley gone? Or the shrugging one? I miss them for threads like this.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I too am having trouble following the logic here. Does this only apply to Landlords? Perhaps the banks should be allowed to repossess a house if a single payment is missed?
  • No, only poor old landlords who rent out their primary residence, who only earn £14kper annum and are trying to give their child a better life while running a charity should be allowed the fast-track to eviction.

If they're on the slow-track they should be allowed to drag their squatter-tenant out by the hair once they've got either a camera-crew and/or the Police in attendance

So... She paid £235k for the house in 2005 on a salary of £14k?

Even if she managed to swing a 5x salary mortgage, that's still only £70k, so she either had a £165k deposit or was on a significantly higher income... (At least £50k based on a 10% deposit, or nearly £40k based on 25% deposit, if my quick'n'dirty mortgage calculator experiments are correct.)

So not that poor then. Certainly not 'less than those on benefits' - a single parent with 1 dependent child would 'earn'

    £65.45 Income Support
    £20.00 Child Benefit
    £54.71 Child Tax Credit
    £21.05 Council Tax Benefit (approx)

No Housing Benefit as she has a mortgage - might qualify for Mortgage Interest Benefit, but no idea how much.

The LHA cap for 2-beds in Hove is currently £194.66/wk, so she certainly wouldn't be able to afford to rent somewhere for £1,200pcm either...

Earlier on in these discussions I decided not to post a link to the charities accounts as they raised a number of questions.
Now that Suzy has pleaded poverty I will let others decide:

  • I'm sure they can clear up all those little details ... (Or lies, as my dictionary calls them).

Well, I'm big enough to admit when I was wrong. And I was very wrong.

What questions do they raise? I've skimmed, and can't find anything within them that suggests any excessive salary is paid to Ms Butler in her role as 'Manager', and apart from the accounts being filed late......
