Ah you see RA I once squatted for 18 months and I put the 'appropriate' notice on the door as soon as I moved in and there was nothing the supposed 'legal owner' could do without getting a court order.

But then that is a past chapter in my life *rolls eyes*

    i'm now a respectable home-owner - yeah rite!

I have friends in AA and NA who have lived in Brighton.

Is this how you know about the squatting business?

I imagine there are a diversity of people who are in AA and NA, all with a story and all with good pointers I imagine.

  • I think that's what has upset people. If she'd been upfront, and left the hystrionics and self rightiousness to one side, I's have far more sympathy.

"Tenant month behind in rent" doesn't have quite the same media appeal, I suspect.
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.
  • Carmen has consistently kept her head down, and I feel that the tide of sympathy may well be turning her way as a result.

And the fact that she seems to have left the place not just OK, but spotless, bedding folded etc, is very impressive.

I think she may have read your mind. At least I hope so. Sadly, I think she will just keep her head down and not bother with legal action.

Do you think so? I wouldn't be surprised if she has already been and been told by her brief to say nothing and do nothing in relation to this. Why would she have to anyway, its been handed to her on a plate due to you utter stupidity, naivity and pure pig ignorance of the law by the landlord.

My own opinion if this does one day end up in court, the right solicitor and the right judge, we may just have a record breaking damages award for harassment and illegal eviction.

In fact Ms Butler and Mr Dummore have fallen for the oldest trick on the net, got drawn into a 'debate' about eviction and try to defend the indefensible.

As its been said so many times before, you cant change a law if you dont even have the most basic understanding of the law at present, you cant, you just cant. You have not presented any ideas apart from 'its not fair', well tough, sometimes life isn't fair and you should know that with the very worthwhile cause you represent.

I really do wish you the best of luck Ms Butler because I have a feeling you are going to need it and possibly, quite possibly that house you caused such a furore over, may just cost you in damages!

And what with.................a court order, how ironic!

Squatters have moved into a multimillion-pound Regency home once owned by royalty.
Up to a dozen people have moved into the Grade I listed six-bedroom home one of the most expensive houses in Brighton and Hove.
The four-storey home is fitted out with priceless paintings, fixtures and fittings, including a King's toilet installed for the visit of Edward VII.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: "We have been alerted to the fact that there are squatters in this place but we have not had cause to visit at the moment.

Despite my doubts about further action, I do hope I'm wrong as it could be one of those very rare cases where the prosecution witness need say absolutely nothing at all from start to finish.
