I caught a bit on Top Gear recently about a new version of the Bugatti Veyron, and their attempts to maintain their claim to be the fastest production car available. I forget the precise figures, but it was something along the lines of they increased the power output by another 200 bhp in order to achieve an increase of 8 or 10 mph top speed.

On that basis, a few extra bhp from chips and exhausts will not make much of a difference ?

Ebe - That was because they were talking of such a massive speed. A simple exhaust & filter swap won't give massive power increases.

Most of the time morons change the gearing on their cars/bikes and forget to re-calibrate the speedometer to take the changes into account, giving a massively false reading.

Everyone knows that sticking a 'sport' badge to the back of any car adds at least 50mph to the top speed.

Why else would so many cars be driving around with 'sport' stuck under their 'Astra' or 'Corsa' badge in a completely different font?

This really is basic mechanics that everyone needs to be aware of.
