Byelaws.
I concur.
By all means !
I am still looking for UK wide legislation that says you must not travel without a ticket as averred earlier.0 -
Yep, have a red othis: http://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/rail/legislation/regs/railwaysbyelaws.pdf
Driver 8 - don't confuse unenforceable private parking tickets and railway byelaw penalties such as this. Geordie Racer is right I'm afraid.
I'd pay.
I know you can be done for fare dodging and rightly so, but, in my quote the amount of times the word "fine" is used is ridiculous.
Some people absolutely love their perceived "authority" and if you give some people so called "authority" they will always always abuse it. Especially if they get to wear that new symbol of "authority" the hi viz vest.0 -
Thanks for your input. I take it you have never had kids of your own then? If so, i feel sorry for them. If my daughter is classed as a minor and still in full time education and below the age where she can seek legal employment where will she find the money in order to pay the fine. I do not question her having to pay the £20 for her mistakes, but surely the company should have to write to her legal guardians in order for them to pay the fine. Under current law, if you cannot demonstrate that the admin fee is justifiable, ie cost £30 to type and post it out, it is unenforceable. I hope you dont ever get a job with any authority or god help us, you keep on cleaning them cubicles.0

If you were a better parent you would have not brought up a fare dodger as a daughter so you are no one to look down your nose at anyone here."There's no such thing as Macra. Macra do not exist."

That means I break the law everytime I get on the train, my local station doesn't have a ticket machine. On the rare occasion I only go one stop to the next village then there is no ticket machine there either, what do I do? Leave the money on the seat?I've given up trying to get my signature to work with the new rules, if nobody knows what the rules are what hope do we have?0 -

If you look on the train, usually by the doors, there is a sticker informing you that it is YOUR responsibiity to find the conductor and buy a ticket.
Fail to do so and you are a dodger.0 -

I think you are out of order, you don't know this person and to slate them as a bad parent because of a teenager's trivial mistake speaks volumes about yourself.
You and your troll like answer is of no benefit to anyone, oh unless you count the boost to your ego , you must be so proud of yourself !Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?0 -

If I fail to find the conductor on a train in the three minutes it takes to go from one station to the next I am a fare dodger? I have tried on many occasions to find the conductor when making longer journeys, as well as on this short hop, because it saves the hassle of having to buy a ticket either when changing or arriving at my destination, but half the time he is locked in the driver's cabin chatting away to the driver, what am I meant to do?
I have to say I have only ever made this one stop journey about twice in my life, normally I would be going at least two stops to a main station where I either alight and buy the correct ticket from the ticket office or change trains and buy a ticket from the conductor at the front of the train if the train is terminating. I think for the number of times I have had to go down to the station, and then queue up because you can't use the ticket machines as it is not your departure or return station and then missed connecting trains, I am owed a couple of free three minute journeys.I've given up trying to get my signature to work with the new rules, if nobody knows what the rules are what hope do we have?0 -

Oh sure, posting on an obscure internet forum really boosts my ego :rotfl:
In terms of lame flames that one is on a par with "Does your Daddy know you are using his computer".
You think I am out of order with my comment, fine. Now you post some good advice in the parking forum so I am going to let this go but next time don't be such a d ick.
macthemountie came here for advice. macthemountie did not like the good advice he/she got and started to look down his/her nose at people ignoring the fact their daughter was a fare dodger. I use the Metro. Fare dodgers are a nuiscance and cause inconvenience and cost to the rest of us so I have zero tolerance of them and zero tolerance of those who condone them.
Geordieracer summed it up perfectly in post 2. It is a tough lesson for the daughter to learn it but the daughter needs to take responsibility for her own failure."There's no such thing as Macra. Macra do not exist."

You asked a question I provided the answer - I don't make the rules!
If you have an issue with "shy" guards complain to the train operator.0
