If you don't want to take a drive assist courtesy car, give helphire a ring and see if they will provide you a courtesy car? I'm sure they'll be happy of the opportunity to charge the 3rd party £40 a day to lend you a car.0

Thanks for the advice. Im not sure if I am allowed to go another hire company. Tesco said they use Drive Assist. I will make sure I check the car inside out and if the guy or woman moans about me taking pictures, I will phone their head office and inform them that I will be taking pictures. Thanks again for your replies.
Do you also know how they value my car if its a write off? I just paid to use parkersguide and it shows really low prices for the value of my car.
This is what I got from parkersguide
Original Price£10,120
Independent Dealer£250
Private Good £190
Private Poor £125
Part Exchange£150

If it is a write off ask if you can buy the car from the insurance company.0
-
Why on earth?
So they sell it to her for £350 and then she finds somewhere cheap to get the repairs done, say another £300. She now has a car that cost £700 +£350+300 and still has cat d on the docs and has to jump through hoops to be put back as roadworthy. Oh, yes, and dont forget it is a month away from mot so could be costly getting it back on the road anyway.
Scrap that !!!!er and be glad it is going.
The maths are simple, just need doing based on the right off value
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -

Sell it to her for £350 when Parkers says you can buy a striaght one from a dealer for £270?
I don't think so somehow, as a write-off it's worth scrap value maybe less (as the company will have to pay someone to take it to the scrap yard)0 -
I wasn’t intending to be rude, apologies if it came over that way.
Don’t know about understanding things, you are the one that suggested the salvage would be £350 for a damaged example of a car which Parkers says can be got from a dealer for £270.
In reality, as the repaired value is £270 then the damaged value is going to be about £70 (assumes the £5-700 repair can be done for £200), which, as I said is less than scrap.
My experience of buy-back is only one but bought back twice after people ran into the back of it, the first time the pay out was 1400 and the salvage was £225, scrap yard bumper, a bit of hammering & levering and a VIC later and it’s back in use, six months later it get written off again, this time the payout was £900 and the salvage was £175
As far as the OP is concerned, the car is worth (Parkers) £270, even if the insurance pay out twice this the OP will get nothing if her insurance company deduct her £550 excess.
Given she’s uneasy and looking at the trouble others have reported with credit hire cars I’d suggest she needs to get her car back and carry on using it (assuming it’s roadworthy) until such time as the TP company pay her out in full.0 -

I would advise you not to use DriveAssist, because they are rip off merchants. There is a long thread here on MSE, which has been going on for years. Please Google them on the net. They are an awful company.0 -
Thanks for all your advice. I will find out tomorrow when the Tesco Mechanic calls me but I am also having the courtesy car delivered in the morning. So does that mean I will now have to cancel the courtesy car? Now I regret sending off the car. When another mechanic looked at my car, who is the same mechanic who fitted my timing belt, he told me it would cost no more than £200 to get the bumper repaired. Can I just not ask for my car back or once they say its a write off I have to go by what they say?I can't afford to buy another car as I have no money. And even if I was offered say £250 from Tesco for the write off, there is no way I can buy a cheap automatic for that. I will refuse their offer if that is what they offered me.
I tried to get a valuation on glass but it says they do not have a value for my car :-(0 -
I have read a lot of awful things about drive assist. But I am really strugglying without the car. I will be taking pictures of the car inside and outside and will only use the car for emergencies. But if its true that once my car has been agreed that it is a write off, then I will not be entitled to the car. I was told by the garage that Tesco's will inform tomorrow regarding my car but the courtesy car will be delivered in the morning.
Also I do not have to pay the excess now as the other driver has accepted liability, not sure if that helps my situation.0 -
You really don't seems happy using Drive Assist and given their reputation I can understand that.
If I was you I would either call the TP company and ask them would they like to provide you with a car (with CDW) to avoid the credit hire costs or reclaim your car and carry on using it (assuming it's safe & roadworthy)0
