Didnt think you had to pay excess in a third party claim!? i didnt anyway
it depends if the OP is going throught there own insurance (then the xcess is payable)
if they are using a claims management service or are dealing direct with the third party then the excess isnt paid..
HTH
edit- you will get the excess back though so dont worry about that as your legal cover will claim it back from the third party..
i hope you and your son have a speedy recovery.. whiplash isnt nice ive had it and it bloody hurtsSealed pot challenger # 10

Yes I am going through my own insurance. I would only pay the excess if my car was repaired before the other driver accepted liability. It is very likely that the car would be repaired first and as I can't afford to pay the excess, I have to wait for the drivers insurance company to accept liability. If I had the money to pay the excess, then this would be given back to me, once my insurance company claimed it from his insurance company-I think. Well that is what I was told, so I am just going to wait.0

If the car values and costs you've given are correct then they are certainly going to write it off. When this happens you could well have the option of buying the salvage back from the insurance company (normally for 10 or 20%) of the payout.
If you do this then you can either get it repaired privately or just carry on using it in its current dented but roadworthy condition0 -

Thanks for your reply. I will look into this. I was hoping to save up and sell my car eventually before the accident happened as my car is a 1.6 so wanted to get something a bit smaller. Even if it is a write off and I buy it back and get it repaired, do you think I would pay the cost of what I have been quoted or would it be less? I don't think anyone would buy the car from me now and I doubt I would get anything if it was scrapped. Also how do they value your car on what it is worth? I checked webuyanycar and got valued at £50, surely that is being stingy and tight?0 -

is worth a read and pretty much covers everything you need to know about valuations although I think it’s more aimed at higher value cars. Ads from autotrader will be another guide to value. What’s the make, model & age?
If you buy the salvage you don’t need to get it repaired at all and certainly not to the same standard as an insurance job, from the sound of it only the bumper is really damaged, one from a scrapyard will be cheap especially if you can get one in the right colour0 -
Just a few pointer to add, from your 1st post I bet you feel a whole lot better having bought a 123K mile car and only getting 1000 miles before the accident than had it been a 10K mile minter?:T
As advised use the car if it is safe and legal to do so, avoiding the hire car. There is always the added worry that somebody will, or even you will damage that
.
Stop worring, again.
;) I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
My son recently started complaining of his arm hurting and head, so I have given him the paracetamol the doc gave him and his now resting although I feel a bit worried now, I am hoping the arm pain is grwoing pains and the headache will go but I will keep him next to me all night and if I worry just take him down to A&E for peace of mind. He can't of hurt his arm from the accident.
Did the arm pain start before or after the accident? If after, then neck pain very commonly causes arm pain. I have a very messeds up neck, and I get pain, pins and needles and numbness in my arms."There is no medicine like hope, no incentive so great, and no tonic so powerful as expectation of something better tomorrow." - Orison Swett Marden0 -
Thanks for all your replies. My car is a suzuki baleno 1.6, R reg (think it's 1998) special edition auto. I think it's an old type of a boy racer car. My plan was eventually to save a bit of money and either part exchange it or sell it but like I said earlier, I was told I would not get what I paid and I wasn't expecting that. I did have a new timing belt fitted and the car is due the MOT in October. If I did sell my car, all I could afford to put on top would be a few hundred pounds, no more than £300. I am glad having read the other thread that my milaege is fine. I think from now on, Im not going to listen to what friends have to say and just stick to here lol. Im going to get another garage to have a look at the car, I would feel a bit better asking around a few than just one.
My son's arm started hurting after the accident although I think it was just a few twitches. I had to take him hospital last night as he was in severe pain from his stomach and had a fever. I phoned NHS Direct and although she said he possibly has a viral infection, his stomach needs to be checked. So off we went, thankfully the seatbelt didn't cause the pain to his stomach, he has gastro ( Cannot spell the full term, sorry) We had to wait a while as his fever would not come down and his pulse was fast, but got home just after 3am.
Just want to say thank you for all your support and advice, I think i would of been crying my eyes out and depressed over this. I know it's just an accident and these things happen but it's a shock when it does.0 -
Hi There, hope youre feeling better this morning.
I would be careful asking around at other garages, make sure your insurance company knows as they have special rates and rules with their designated garages.
Just as an aside, when or if your car is written off if you are not happy with their offer you are well within your rights to refuse the first offer, Its always well to do so anyway. and then see what they come back with.
Good luck and hope your little boy gets better soon.
(a chinese colleague gave me a little chinese lucky charm to hang in the car, so far, its worked)
Bye for now
Anniemake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
