    I'll second that.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

Absolutely, many crimes went uninvestigated as the BiB looked the other way. Lynne Featherstone specifically acknowledges this. So much for protect and serve. But you can bet with the publicity this is now getting and the change in the law the cops will be on it like a rash.

Unless the government run clamping firms, such as the council etc. are allowed to branch out to cover the gap in the market to cover private land?

Not such an absurd idea if you think about it, rather than chirp on about how much you hate clampers.

That is a good idea and one that we are now considering (ie bring our car park under council "ownership"). I'm sure the council would appreciate " a bit of the action" in view of the stringent budget cuts they are now facing. In fact this may be the hidden agenda here from the Con-Libs.

However there doesn't seem much point continuing posting on this site as it seems that the more vocal money saving experts on here honestly believe in a complete "something for nothing" culture.
I agree that there is a thug element among certain clamping companies, but the ones we use are reputable and only act on instruction from the landowner, they don't go touting for business and we've never had any complaints from people who have been clamped, which is after all a fair cop considering the very visible notices and warning signs around the ground.
If the government ban clamping, they do need to find a workable framework to deter problem parkers.

After all, if you don't buy a ticket for a train journey, the train company is entitled to fine you, which IS most definitely enforceable in law. They also have the right to throw you off the train at the next stop. Can it be right that a landowner does not have the right to fine someone using their service without paying for it, or even to tow a car off their own land? A train company is private property, owned by shareholders, so why do some car drivers believe they have some sort of immunity from paying to park?

And before anyone replies with the stock answer that "stations have installed barriers", not all stations have barriers, and if they don't have barriers does it then make it acceptable to get on a train without buying a ticket? After all the train is going anyway, so where's the harm in that?

The difference is that there are railway bylaws. This means that if you don't buy a ticket then that is a criminal offence. Parking on private land is covered by civil law which states that one private citizen cannot punish another private citizen.

Edit. The actual law is :- The Regulation of Railways Act 1889,

Why You Should Always Buy A Valid Train Ticket
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?
  • The possible problem is that councils would use it as a cash cow. We saw a similar situation with 'safety cameras' that were merely devices to collect 'speed tax' and did not contribute to road safety.
Still waiting for Parking Eye to send the court summons! Make my day!

I think you are looking into this and most what this thread - on this subject a little to much.

Most folk here didnt mind clamping or tickets, No one was after a so called free ride, What you do see in here are many folk who been ripped off or helping those who are being ripped off.

And i say again most have had a ticket and gone far cop i was late,Didnt put enough money in, Thought i be ok for 2 mins while pop into shop etc etc,Done it myself paid the ticket didnt want to get out of it i was wrong.

This in here is all about clampers and PPC taking the Pi@@ and ripping folk off by any means they can in an untrusting way.

If you look in my very first post i got a ticket from a PPC, now like before ( 2 now) i would have paid- if i know- i wrong- i pay, But when you know that there was no signs or they were hidden etc etc You can see why folk get angry because its was unfair and unjust way of trying to get money

No matter how much you try and back up the clampers, they are going end of story, they have stitched themselves up, they use extortion to force people to give them money, unlike other industries having a few bad eggs, the clampers have a huge majority of bad eggs, they deserve to go out of business.

Bye bye scum clampers you are the weakest link :) time to get a real job where extortion and clamping nurses are not a requirement!
Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?

The Con-Dems, the government for law-breaking motorists: now they can break speed limits at will (starting in Oxfordshire), and park on any private land they like. What next? drink-driving limits to be abolished?...
  • I propose in the interest of even handedness that people who abuse the right of private property owners by parking, and cause real cost and loss of earning, should be subject to the summary judgement and justice of the said property holder without right of legal redress regardless of the judgement or punishment inflicted, there that makes both sides even.

Fancy calling blackmailers who demand money by menaces criminals, whatever next?!

Fancy forcing Police to take long overdue action, now that clamping activity will be known to be 'illlegal'? OMG it's so unfair on the poor clampers...
