We charged £52.95 for a dozen hand-tied best red roses with green, wrapping etc, delivered locally. You cannot compare them with your £4.99 price from Morrisons, it’s like comparing a Reliant Robin to a Ferrari. We did in fact have a similar rose to Morrisons that sold for £6.95. Roses are like anything else, you can buy cheap roses, or you can get expensive roses, there isn’t one price for all like most things in life you get what you pay for.
Our profit margin is less on these type of occasions than it is generally through the year because if the flowers were costed as they would be normally they would be even more expensive. If your wife was happy with your £4.99 roses, then good for you.

I take it alared that you think it is the florist who hikes the prices up for Valentines Day? If you do then you couldn’t be further from the truth. It’s our suppliers of fresh flowers that charge us more. I don’t know if this is because they are profiteering, or if the cost of producing so many roses for February costs that much more.

A rose by any other PRICE would smell as sweet.

    :D

I'd go spare if my husband spent £52.95 on any number of roses.

    ;)

As would most people earning the average wage.
Personally I can`t see how they justify the price.
It reminds me of the guy from a top perfume company when asked to justify the exorbitant price changed for his product said "The lady of the house does`nt mind paying a high price because she then knows her cleaning lady won`t be smelling the same as her"
    What a merchant banker!!!!

Following the original flower fiasco the 14th, Tesco then promised a refund plus another bunch of flowers to say sorry.

"What day would you like them delivered, Sir?" - "Friday" I said.

Hey, Friday deliveries are now over & no flowers.

Apparently they are all being sent out but they have no idea when they will arrive!!

Anyone with mothers they actually like - beware!! Go & buy one from one of those oold fashioned but more reliable bricks & mortar things - real shops.....
  • aaarrrggghhh they have messed up my resend to for friday , now its meant to be tuesday ,maybe wednesday or next friday ????????

but my refund paid for a night in a hotel to win me more brownie points :D

I had been toying with the idea of ordering fleurs for my semi-Other Half (non-live-in, not-quite-expired), on the 14th, but decided in the end that I am too tight, (and he didn't get me anything, anyway!) Having read through this thread, I'm glad I decided not to.

I took myself and three kids to Nimes on the 14th, instead, for £40 return for the 4 of us, on a Ryan Air super-cheap-!!!!!! flight. We all had a brilliant time visiting Roman buildings, (mostly free), and stayed in the Youth Hostel there, (4-person room - £72 for 3 nights), and lived on french bread, cheese, pate, salad, fruit, cheap wine :D and spagetti, courtesy of the local supermarket.

I'd recommend Nimes as the perfect romantic city to visit for next Valentine's Day. Wrap up warm, though, as the Mistral always seems to be blowing, and that makes it feel pretty cold, despite the fact that out of the wind with the sun shining it was like early Summer.
A penny saved is a penny gained
  • Don't want to rub anyone's nose in it but I can't praise Tesco high enough..........

They earned me more Brownie points than I could imagine.......

I ordered a dozen red roses to be delivered for valentines day for £20.....like alot of people.....Only to receive Two dozen Red Roses and Two boxes of Belgium Chocs delivered on the right day and only £20 taken from my card.....

Wasn't I the luckiest and most thoughtful hubby around.............:D
  • ok so tescos said delivery of said roses 24 hours late would be free NO CHARGE for flowers or flowers on saturday but today £45.00 is ripped from Bank. NOT HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

been intouch by email nothing yet.
  • 24 yellow roses turned up yesterday from Tesco by post.
I must say the were lovely.
They say they are going to refund the original cost of the 12 roses for valentines day.
Now that is really money saving.

I said I would take my wife out for a meal with the money, KFC or MacDonald's (only joking)

By the way Tesco's are slow to reply to emails
