If you like doner kebabs you will def like the one in the book Monica.
Try Tesco for your Lamb mince, it's only about £1.59 for 500g, I wouldn't buy best quality lamb as it will probably come out dry.0 -
I saw it used on a cooking show & it looked really smart, but when I did the research, the 49 1 star reviews out of 103 on Amazon.com put me off
It does say on this site to avoid the Oxo one and the Borner one gets a good review.

Hello again
I just have to say thank you to the person suggesting the mandolin-type slicer. I've got a wee plastic job from Lidl (about £2) so I'll give it a shot. The picture certainly looks more authentic and less meatloaf-ish.
I've just made another doner using this time Asda lamb mince at £2.80 (but I got it yellow stickered at £1.60). I have to say that it has rendered much more fat than the Tesco value stuff. I am amazed at the bottom of the roasting tin.
Also made the breakfast sausage this morning. My first thumbs down:(. Am not a huge fan of sage so it might just have been that but DS hated it.Grocery Challenge M: £450/£425.08 A: £400/£.May -£400/£361 June £380/£230 (pages 18 & 27 explain)0 -

You're welcome!
It certainly did the job for me.
I thought it was just like a takeaway doner the first time that I made it, but, after using my Borner to slice it this time, you wouldn't have noticed the difference between this and a bought kebab. It made a lot of difference.
Just make sure your slicer is sturdy as some aren't meant to cut meat.
Mine was quite an expensive one compared to some and is quite hard wearing, the German manufacturer has been making them for about 40+ years and the blades are made from surgical steel.0 -

I used the superlean lamb from Waitrose (slimming world), it was a tad on the dry side.0 -

Mrs E, do you think putting a tray of water in might help? I am sure someone said that kept meat moist.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

What like underneath it?
I cooked mine on a oven tray, unless the oven tray was tiny would the steam even reach it.
Mine wasn't bad at all:D
If it had been fattier (jucier) lamb it would have been even better.
Normal lamb mince & trust me, it will be fab:D0
