I bought the first book earlier this week but am having difficulty sourcing some of the ingrediants. can anyone tell me where i might find garlic and ginger paste and a creamed coconut block. both are needed to make the basic curry sauce, i have looked in mr T's today but being new to cooking from scratch i have no idea what i am looking for.:o
any help greatfully appreciated

shows the packets that Tesco stock (if you have an Asda nearby then KTC brand is cheaper again (76p)) (first two items) they are roughly the size of a deck of cards on the longer side and two thirds that on the narrow side.

I found the creamed coconut block in either MrT or MrA - probably world foods aisle. Couldn't find garlic and ginger paste to begin with but substituted garlic puree with a good dose of ginger powder. Later found ginger paste and garlic paste but not the 2 together - bought the ginger paste and stuck with the garlic puree!
I've pre-ordered the new book so will find out how to make it properly very very soon!0 -

It is that price so you don't buy it as it is out of stock - seller doesn't have to stop and restart listing when new stock arrives, just changes price back to normal.0 -

I'm guessing that listing is stupidity, greed or both

For anyone that lives near Glasgow, you may be interested to know that Kenny is doing a book launch for 'More Takeaway Secrets' next Friday night at 7.30pm in the Celtic Supporters Association, London Rd, Glasgow.
Kenny will be making food from both the first & second book for people to sample. Entry is £8 with the book or £4 if you already have a copy.
All profits raised on the night will go to The Kano Foundation, a charity that takes disadvantaged kids groups on days out to football matches.
If you are interested in attending the book launch, drop me a pm and I'll tell you how to arrange tickets. As well as the book & food, there will be a disco afterwards. Kenny will also give hints & tips on how to make your favourite recipes.
This is a big step for Kenny as readers of the book will know he has social anxiety disorder. He wants to thank his supporters and lovers of the books/recipes, so we hope it is a good turnout.0 -
Just to say, this is the garlic and ginger paste I use (it contains 5 spice as well)
Looking at the website they also do one with spring onion:
But I've never actually seen this one in my local Tesco.0 -
you'll find tubs of it in an asian grocer for much less than these brands..0

Quite possibly so, but many of us dont have the time or an Asian grocer near to us.
It was asked further back in the thread about the availability of these products in Supermarkets. The above products are what the local Supermarkets stock.
Whether you choose to use them is entirely up to you.0
