I'm just in the process of making my first kebab. It has about 5 minutes to go. Dh cut a wee bit off and says it tastes lovely, but a wee bit dry. Maybe I bought mince that wasn't fatty enough? Tesco only had one kind left today. I'll wrap it in tin foil for 10 minutes like it says in the book - maybe that'll retain some moistness.
Edited to add: panic over - it's not dry! Wrapped it in tin foil, and it's fine. In fact my dh and ds can't get enough of it. I'm telling them to leave some for when my other son comes home later tonight!0 -
Made this for the second time, the first time i found the sauce too runny.
This time i only used 3/4 of the coconut milk and water recommended.
It was much better! Thicker, with a nice consistency.:)0 -

Did you find that it tasted just like melted peanut butter and really really sweet?
When I done it I found the sauce really really thick but the coconut milk was more like cream/yoghurt rather than milk like I expected.
I might try it with a different brand of coconut milk it was rajah the 1st time I tried. What one do you use if you don't mind me askingCredit Card: £796 Left/£900 October 2011 :eek:Store Card: £100 October 2011

No it wasn't like peanut butter and sweet- you could definitely taste some of the other ingredients
I used Dunn's River coconut milk- can't remember where i bought it but it was definitely more like milk than cream, thats why i used less this time.0 -
Hi All
Hope you dont mind me asking this but i've been pointed in your direction after asking on another thread if anyone knows of a good chicken chow mein and curry sauce recipe but like a take away chow mein and sauce (i've tried to convince dh previously and failed but i'm so determined not to let him have his way this weekend and spend the ££'s on a take away)
Hope you can help

I did the Lamb Kebab Doner tonight - combination of spices was just right - not too peppery but really tasty. Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0

just mixed the dry ingredients for fajitas this week, doesnt smell 'smoky' but will give them a whirl,,bought the book after reading this thread, got it on my kindle ;-)
Bought £3 lamb mince in sainsburys today,,to make kebab later in week, not bad for a meal for 4 (dd is veggie) but i would have preferred value lol
gonna try mix cookie dough and roll out tomorrow after work/school
will let u know what it all turns out like thanks to all who post tips etc all really helps :-)
if you like smokiness, use 1/2 - 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika in place of the regular paprika
I use a slightly diifferent fajita mix recipe, but the principle's the same0 -
^^ M0neySav3R - there is a Chinese Food thread that's mentioned on the first page of this thread

hi moneysav3r - This thread is discussing Kenny McGoverns - the takeaway secret book. we would be breaching copyright if we posted the recipes themselves. the book is available at most good booksellers including Amazon for around £3.99 + pp. which is cheaper than most takeaways! nearly everyone agrees that the book will pay for itself quickly enough and the recipes are mostly easy. as most takeaways vary we tend to discuss our 'tweaks' to the recipe to make it more like our locals or to celebrate our successes and find out why a recipe 'failed'.
will PM you if you dont mind.0
