my book arrived today from play.com, had a look through & think even i could manage to make something from there! i especially like that most of the recipe amounts are for 1, although the recipe for southern fried chicken is for 1-2 people & uses 5-6 pieces of chicken:eek:, rather alot for 1 person (even with my big appetite & love of kfc!). maybe i missed it but i couldnt find a recipe for the gravy you get at kfc, i was really hoping it would be in there, maybe one day i will discover it:D.

Aww, I was hoping that would be in there as my son LOVES their gravy.
Off to order the book anyway. :D

    hi Clutterfree,
there are a whole lot of recipes for 'KFC gravy' on various clone recipe sites all claiming to be like the real thing

if you can get the ingredients it might be worth trying some of them out, I got a great Fajita seasoning recipe from one of them that's saved me a fortune now that I don't have to buy those expensive little packets :)
  • Oh dear, I wasn't meant to be buying anymore books... this looks good though, I really love McD's breakfasts but can't get there much, and it costs a lot... now I can make my own! :)

    I've been Money Tipped!
Am I missing something or is this a mistake in the book.

    Page 146 Pitta Bread.

The fifth paragraph it says ' Shape the dough into a ball once again. Place the pitta breads onto a baking tray, cover once again and set aside for 20 minutes.'

Then says preheat oven....... bake for .........

What about flattening or rolling them out before you put them on the baking tray, surely you don't just put a ball of dough on the tray to bake?

I would have thought that you flatten and shape them first before putting them on the tray to bake.

Can anyone who has made this confirm that they either put the ball of dough on the tray to cook or flattened it first.

    Ta.

decided to try the chinese curry sauce

    hmmmmm

i am a HUGE garlic fan
(always said there can never be too much garlic in anything)

reading the recipe beforehand i was a bit mmmmm about this, so went on the side of caution and used 2 cloves
you can still taste the garlic over everything else

i wonder if everyones chinese takeaway makes the same curry
this one is slightly more orange than ours does, the one we get is a little more green in colour

would be interested to hear what anyone else has to say about this:)

I've just made the Chinese curry sauce and agree, my local chinese takeaway curry is more green in colour. I've played with the recipe slightly (added 1/4 tsp of fenugreek and a dash of lemon juice) but still feel like it's missing an initial 'depth' of flavour. Tested it on DS1 and OH who say that it tastes about right though. Next time I try it I'll fry some chunky onions with the garlic and ginger and maybe leave out the turmeric.

The local chinese gave me the basic ingredients of their black pepper sauce ages ago so if I can't get it right I might just ask them how they get the green tinge to their curry sauce. It doesn't exactly help that I don't eat Chinese curry because it seems wrong to me lol. Hmmm, apart from a Thai green curry so....maybe the ingredient I believe is missing is whatever makes a thai green curry green.

"Oh, it’s only me, the littlest Billy-goat Gruff and I’m going off to the hills to make myself fat"
  • Hmm not impressed with our supper tonight! We tried the southern fried chicken. Not like KFC at all, in fact it will be good for my diet as i hardly ate any of it. Hopefully some other receipes will be nicer!
