Been really busy so this has been the first chance I've had to catch up properly! Think its all become reality when the midwife started talking sweeps this week  Resisting intervention for now.......

Do I need to buy some breastpads before baby is born?

I started leaking just before both mine were born and had to use pads. I took a pack into hospital and definently needed them while I was there.
My advice is to buy plenty and take a spare top out with you in the beginning until a feeding pattern is established. i had a couple of embarrasing times when Id went out within the first week or so and my top was soaked all down the front, this was WITH pads and feeding regularly :o.

They arent that expensive so wont go to waste.

    *sneaks in from parent's thread*

Giz, I didn't find that I needed the breast pads when I was actually in the hospital. It was a couple of days later when my milk came in that my boobs became milk bombs! Also, if no one's mentioned it (and you aren't allergic to lanolin/ vegan) get some Lansinoh for your nips when you start feeding, it helps stop them drying out and cracking. In this weather you'll probably have to sit on the tube as it's mega stiff and needs warming up a bit.

Giz I would get some, doesn't matter if you don't use them till you have the baby but you are bound to start leaking if you have none in. I got through a whole pack before I had DD but didn't even use a third of a pack with DS. I've got some just incase but I think my boobs are gonna take some convincing to breastfeed again this time.

You've got a point there. Sods law is bound to make an appearance.

Any votes on the best breast pads? I have 3 samples Lansinoh, Tommee Tippee that came with the breast pump and I forget the other.

Fuzz - good idea about lava lamp. Very :money: We have one too, but we already have reading lights in the bedroom.

My mum has been moaning that we keep buying everything for baby! But we're not even buying fun cute things. My list is really short. I must be missing stuff.

    Pushchair
    Carry cot
    Footmuff
    Changing Bag
    Car seat
    Car seat base
    Car seat adapter
    Cotbed
    Mattress
    Bedding
    Sheets/blanket
    Mobile
    Changing mat
    Muslin Squares
    Reusable Nappies
    Bin for nappies
    Nappy Liners
    Reusable wipes
    Bath Support
    Baby Carrier
    TENS machine
    Birth Ball
    Breast pads

I need to look back at your lists as I'm sure I'm missing essentials.

    @MV - nice bump :D

lol oh yeah - got clothes and disposable nappies already!
And got a manual breast pump that comes with a bottle. If breast feeding goes to plan I'm only intending on expressing if away which at the moment will be the night I go to the Boyzone concert. I'm not buying sterilising equipment.

What about these waterproof sheet things for if waters break while in bed? Are they needed? Or is there an MSE alternative?
I suppose I need maternity sanitary towels too. Any recommendations for brand?

What about somesort of first aid kit? Any baby medicines that I couldn't do without? Do I need nappy rash cream from the outset too? Got a free sample of sudocrem, but it's quite small.

Ooh I think I need a nappy bag too for when out and about for the dirty ones.

I bought some of the childs bed wetting sheets (not sure if huggies or pampers) when they were on special offer. I put a couple under the sheet on my side of the bed then a towel as they were crinkly and annoying. I had them there from about a week til my due date.

Im glad i did as my waters broke at 1 am with my dd just as sat up to go to the loo. Most hit the floor but some on my side of the bed, the sheets and towel saved the bed. sorry if thats too mush info lol.

I bought Boots maternity pads too. I also bought the heaviest flow Allways I could find as they had wings. The Boots ones didnt so they moved a bit.
In hospital I took in a couple pairs of black trackie bottoms as my pj's that way if i bled too much it was hidden until I could change.
