While we're on the pg/medical questions- I've just had a letter that I'm due for my first smear test. Do smears and pregnancy mix, or should I contact GP admin department to say "remind me in 4 months"? Will ask MW tomorrow, but (as always!), interested in others' opinions.
I got called for a smear a month or so ago but when I checked with the GP she advised me they don't do this when you're pregnant. Not sure how long after delivery you have to wait though.0 -
Re smears in pregnancy. They can be done, but unless you need them for a previous abnormal result they prefer not to do them. Usually you would need to wait until 12 weeks after delivery to let the bleeding settle down. Call them and let them know you are pregnant so they don't think you are just ignoring the reminder. They will then also give you the current advice on how long after delivery to wait.
I'm currently having 10 weekly smears throughout my pregnancy as I had an high grade abnormal result from the smear I had done weeks before I got pregnant and they can't biopsy while pregnant. I have just had the last smear last week and been told I need to go for a biopsy 12 weeks after baby is born to check the abnormality. It can't be done before then as it takes that long for the cervix to settle down and bleeding to fully stop, you are likely to get an inadequate result and need it repeated otherwise.

Ok I am flabbergasted atm...and am going off the subject of smears (sorry :S)
I live in Belfast and my dentist recently left the practice to go to one closer to his home and the owner has decided to go private so I have to find another dentist. Due to the fact I am preggers I had read that I am entitled to free dental work and I need to have a check up so started phoning around local practices to be told they were accepting new patients but that it would be April.....yes I said April....before any could give me an appointment...does anyone know what on earth I can do until then????The pod landed and produced baby Timothy on 10th March 20110 -

Still here, pretty much resigned to the fact that nothing will happen til after the sweep on thursday
Regarding the sola which a few people are looking at, that was my fave for a while then i took oh to see it and he noticed that the back of it when it is parent facing is quite ugly, and the other thing that put me off was the cost of the cosytoes and car seat on top of the priceof the pram, the pram / puschair is quite reasonably priced but with the extra bits the cost climbs up, i ended up getting the mothercare my4 with pramand maxi cosi which i think, with discounts worked out better value and it has all the extra bits included.
This is only my opinion and i really did love the sola, stacey slater/branning has it lol it really is worth looking at everything
hope i don't turn bold tomorrow, labour vibes by the bucket load please xx

It shouldn't be a battle Lilac, just tell them you don't want it and you've read up about risks etc... (Although, do read about risks too... Obviously) The midwife I saw last time said she'd rather see a hundred women who have informed themselves and made a personal choice than ten who just blindly follow protocol...
I know I'm immune, I had rubella as a newborn... I refused the blood test to check for immunity...A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...My Fathers Daughter wrote: »Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

ASHeta, I'm due a smear test and knowing I'm pregnant they've got it in my notes to do at post-birth follow up (about 8 weeks after I think).
Hgrymummy - I think we're all gonna be running our baby names by you now you've unveiled your talents, an astute MSEr might start charging for this service
LilacPixie - I was geared up for a fight not to have a rubella jab post-birth, but my bloods came back with antibodies, so my mum was right about not sending me for the jab at age 13, seems I have immunity from the german measles I had when I was eight. We Made-it-3 on 28/01/11 with birth of our gorgeous DD.0
