I should say that not everyone with synaesthesia sees the same colours, but they colours they see won't change. So for me Joseph will always be sky blue and James will always be a greyish bluey green (a sea kind of colour, obviously UK sea rather than mediteranean sea). Alas I don't 'see' Anne as I hear it too often so it seems to have made it too familiar for me. It must be a nice colour though (maybe blue?), as my mum likes it. Matilda - quite difficult to describe, as it seems to have quite a bit going on. Very dark inky green in the middle (think Quink in the bottle) with yellow right at the end, but there's also red in there somewhere, and a little touch of blue somewhere near the top.
I hope that hasn't put you off any of them, although I guess it's all about what colours you like I suppose. I'm looking for bluey names.
I also get pain related synaesthesia, which is really odd. Period type pains are definitely newspaper, whereas tiredness headaches are fizzy and blue. Should make labour a little bit more interesting
Hope I don't sound too wierd
BTW, I'm not having my flu jab. I find needles very traumatic, and I don't want to have to go through it as I suspect that sproglet will pick up on the trauma. DH isn't terrbily pleased about the idea though. If having different experiences, thoughts and ideas to you, or having an opinion that you don't understand, makes me a troll, then I am proud to be a 100% crying, talking, sleeping, walking, living Troll. :hello:0 -

Restless legs can be due to dehydration, but that's not helpul really as the more you drink the more you'll be up all night weeing anyway! It can also be to do with a lack of iron so check your bloods again with your midwife tomorrow. My pregnancy yoga teacher also gave us a stretch to relieve it - basically you stretch your legs out, toes pointed, then flex your toes towards you, repeat that a few times. Then rotate your foot a few times, and then in the other direction.
Hope that helps a bit - it really is annoying isn't it?
I'll have a go at that. I seem to have picked up all the annoying family traits since I've been pg- my aunt and mother have suffered for years with RL. Their advice is to go stand on a cold floor- which would be fine if I didn't get it just as I'm dropping off to sleep. It goes away as soon as I'm awake enough to stand... maybe I should sleep in the kitchen! :rotfl: Dehydration is also a possibility- juice and water give me indigestion, milk makes me sick and I've never liked fizzy drinks. My budget only stretches to so much appletiser (the happy medium)- ergo, probably not drinking enough.Morning peeps!
Ash, you'll have to let me know how you get on with the Sola, it's currently the one I like best (although I've only just started looking!)
Foreign name dilema doesn't sound good at all - especially not needing to avoid the names of 80 cousins! I found a few that OH didn't immediately hate so thats a start for us, I think we'll concentrate on it more after the next scan when we hopefully find out if bump is a boy or girl!! (I'm too impatient to wait!)
Sola wasn't anywhere on my list until Sat when we went and had a proper play with them all rather than just looking, OH breaking while trying to collapse, then hastily retreating .
We were waiting until we found out the sex too- but that excuse is a few weeks gone. Still no decisions. I've put OH's nieces on the case, I'm hoping they'll come up with a list of names I like... although trusting baby names to 9-13 year old girls is possibly not the wisest decision .spaghetti_monster wrote: »My OH is the opposite! His cousin has the same name as him (born around the same time and living on the same street!), also shared by an uncle and granddad. He doesn't see any problem in repeating a name.
It's funny but he also really likes a name shared by a family member he really dislikes - and has no problem with it at all!
My Dad's family is the same- they're all John, James, Thomas or Walter... or a combination thereof. He was relieved my sister and I were both girls because my Mother told him she didn't want any of those. :rotfl:.
While we're on the pg/medical questions- I've just had a letter that I'm due for my first smear test. Do smears and pregnancy mix, or should I contact GP admin department to say "remind me in 4 months"? Will ask MW tomorrow, but (as always!), interested in others' opinions.

I have a thing about needles and the fact that when trying to get blood out of me its like getting blood out of a stone so I feel for you there hngrymummy...have my big scan next week so am going to discuss it with the MW then xxThe pod landed and produced baby Timothy on 10th March 20110 -
Leopard lady - I meant i was getting freaked out by Ema's and mine identical pregnancy. But thanks for the advice anyway
Speaking of which - Ema, get your own pregnancy and stop copying mine :rotfl:. I honestly cannot believe how in sync we are.
MI3 - I honestly don't mind if there is a ginger gene in bubs. As long as he/she is healthy hair colour is the last thing on my mind
Welcome Rockinbikergal, sorry to hear you are going through it at the mo.
thanks hngrymummy, not really sure what it all means but there are no colours in there that I don't like so they'll do for me. there's a lot of blues which is good and the red for man utd suits me fine.(need to google Quink
).
Re: the flu jab, as I said. I work for the NHS and part of my job is to communicate the benefits of the flu jab to our staff and pregnant women. I'm privvy to all the info on it and from reading that I've decided that it would be beneficial (for me). Totally everyone elses opinion though. Because of my job, I more than most am aware of the devastating effects of Swine flu and I really do not want to put myself at risk of that.
Everyone has to make their own choice though0 -

My GP told me that the only reason they like to 'go in there' when you are preggers is if you have any type of infection and you need to be swabbed...personally I hate smears and although I am up to date I find them the most uncomfortable and distressing thing to go through at the best of times without worrying about the addition of being preggers xxxThe pod landed and produced baby Timothy on 10th March 20110 -

Will really have to ask my Mother about this- I know she has synaesthesia when it comes to numbers and letters (which helps her brilliance at mental arithmetic apparently) but I've never thought to ask her if it extends to whole words and therefore names.
I know a lot of the research that's been done on synaesthesia and numbers suggests that similar colours are seen for numbers and letters among speakers of the same language- for example, most English speaking synaesthetists(?!?) will see the letter G as green, while as German speakers will see it as yellow, suggesting a link between synaesthesia and language (yellow being Gelb in German).

Forgot to say
thansk for the recommendations for Becks Blue. I got some on sat and had one on sat nite (could only manage one before getting bloated). Tastes exactly the same, even OH thought so. I've never been a big lager fan so won't be having loads but good to know i can feel 'normal' for a while0 -
Another pic upload complete on FB. For anyone interested in accupuncture for carpal tunnel here is what they did to my hand.
And anyone interested in Cupping for SPD here is a picture of what they did to my back lol. I didnt have fire cupping, just vacuum cupping where they suck air out of the top of the cups using a valve and a widget lol.

As far as I've read, you only need go if you had an abnormal smear the time before. Otherwise yes, make an appointment for after the birth, but do make sure you tell them this as it was a nightmare trying to get an appointment for my last one - apparently they were overrun because of Jade Goody! My debt free diary | Post Office loan: £2131 1429.38 | Barclaycard: £4429 1988.12 | Paypal Credit £322.71 574.91 | Monzo Flex £169.03 |
