I have a question about baby showers - has anyone here had one? Or is it more of an American thing? If you've had one or are having one, did you organise it yourself or did a friend/relative do it?

My mum and sister organised mine, it was fab, they did great games such as - who can drink juice from baby bottle the fastest, guess the babyfood flavour, stick the dummy on the baby, guess which melted chocolate is in each nappy......... everyone had a fab night andi got tons of pressies :-)

I dont see why you couldnt organise one yourself though :)

Lilian I think it is more of an american thing but is becoming more popular over here, traditionally someone else organises it for you but I can't see why you can't do it yourself, mind you I'd have said the same about the hen night. I left my sister to organise my hen night and it was a bit of a disaster. Never had a baby shower but kind of wish I had with the first, I'm going with the other plan and inviting everyone round a couple of weeks after baby is here.

Thanks - I think that's the best plan too. I'm so knackered I look forward to my evenings and weekends on the sofa, I'd probably just be annoyed if I came home and found everyone here ;)

easiest way is to get the last person who updated it to add you so there's not to many versions of the lit floating around, think it was Rach who updated last........Rach...did you hear me??:p:D:rotfl:
yes miss :p:p give me a minute and I'll find it.

my afternoon has zoomed by....skyped with my sister for an hour, then friend phoned for an hour and a half, then Dh phoned...literally all these ran into each other and I was dying for a poo!!! Then I phoned my sister again to tell her something quick, 30 mins later...

So I am now watching the cricket and contemplating pasta and pesto for dinner as it's quick and easy. My mum is phoning later too :)

moneysaver12- hope you got some help at the drs, no sleep is awful, poor you!

  • Hello,
    Professional lurker here.
Time for me to realise that, yes, I am pregnant and will eventually give birth to a baby. No idea on the gender of baby flower. They don't tell you in Aberdeen. So it'll be a surprise.
Could you add me to the Due Date list? I'm due 21st January 11.
    Thank you
    Flo

  • Evening ladies, been trying to catch up on the thread! Hope everyone is doing well!

I sent (well left in the docs last Mon for the GP to sign, so hopefully they have sent on) HIP grant form last Monday, so once i get it my £190 will be going on a mattress, bedding for cot and carpet for babys room (OH got paint on the current carpet that i intended on using the Rug Doctor grrrrrrrr)

Was just wondering... my mum and dad got my old cot (24 years old) cot down from the attic and although the base for the mattress seems a funny size to modern ones, have found one online for £40 :)

My question is- providing once the cot is up and sturdy enough- would anyone have any reasons not to use it? the bars arent bigger than 6cm so no danger of limbs/head getting stuck.
Re: bedding- the base looks like it needs a mattress 125cm x 55cm- would any type of bedding fit this? I am so confused?

    Thanks in advance xx

    Evening ladies,

Quiet on here tonight - hope there's some busy babies :)

Lilian - Baby showers sound fun. I would maybe suggest asking a friend or relative you trust to organise one for you - and to just keep the finer details a secret so its a bit of a surprise!

Flower - congrats on your pregnancy :)

Fuzz - Ta for the Bio Oil link. Its soo expensive in Boots!! Ive been using up my various lotions and potions lurking in the bathroom til the next Xmas lot ;)

Not much going on here. 13+5 and going slowly!! I've told family and close friends about the pregnancy and wondering if I should put it on FB for the wider community - it's so much quicker and easier - am I being lazy??

Also thinking of going to the Baby Show in London in October. Is it worth it or will it be a nightmare like the Wedding Show
