I was booked in for induction Friday and had worked myself up over it so much I ended up going into labour naturally! I had to have my waters broken though. I had all these plans for a drug free hypnobirthing inspired water birth and it all went completely wrong. Theo was in distress, there was merconium in my waters of which he had swallowed a great deal and had it on his lungs. My MW was terrible and I was in complete agony, ended up in theatre having a ventouse delivery with a spinal injection (I was deemed for C section by my MW but I demanded alternative options). My little boy spend the first few days of his life in the special care baby unit and we both only left hospital last night after more muck ups. He weighed a healthy 7lbs 11ozs, not the 9-10lbs he was predicted!
I don't remember all of my birth, but my labour lasted 26 hours and it was one of the most traumatic moments of my life, but I am soooo pleased with my little man Theohe is absolutely gorgeous and I cannot imagine life without him
Sorry it all didn't go as planned but the main thing is you're both home now and healthy and you're a MUM:eek::T:j Loads of us have been waiting for updates from you:o Hope the doting Dad is ok too and is rushing around after you both;):)

congratulations kit kat, sorry it didn't go to plan, But glad you're both home now
Eviesmummy I'll be glad to be able to get some sleep, and be comfortable in my bed again, I'm up every hour if i manage to get some sleep. I've had a bit of a duvet day today, I only got about 3 hours last night0 -
Congratulations Kitkat. Sorry to hear about your experience, at least you are both home safe and sound. When you feel up to it I suggest you discuss it with you midwife or someone from the hospital to ensure you understand why everything happened. I didn't have "closure" on my first birth and it has overshadowed most of this pregnancy.
Enjoy your mummy cuddles and your little man.0 -
Congratulations Kitkat! I bet Theo is absolutely gorgeous.
And Smartie, you come and moan on here as much as you like.
Courgette, great news that you're being supported and not having to fight, hope everything goes to plan for you, and your little munckin decides to make a nice undramatic home entrance - he can get on with it now, it's a new school year :rotfl:0 -
Thanks everyone
I am loving being a mummyits the best feeling, you will all love it!!
Even the nappies really aren't that bad, I do find myself thinking 'how the hell can it look like that when all you do is drink milk' :P the funniest thing is when the poo's literally hit the nappy.. I honestly thought that was a joke when I think Cafc(?) mentioned it... but its true! Makes such a loud noise and almost vibrates the whole room!!
Theo has been great, really relaxed peaceful baby, has loads of blondy brown hair I will try upload a pic now. Thanks about the name Gem, its has mixed feelings among family but we love it and its now official as of yesterday
Fuzz you were indeed right! Even MW that delivered him predicted a girl and I told her I knew he was a boy, her face dropped when she saw the willy!!
Bfing has been a bit hit and miss... as he was whisked straight off to SCBU we never had skin to skin, or chance for 1st BF, so I tried when he was transferred to my ward but he kept latching on and off and hurt me loads. I have been expressing and topping up with formula which isnt too bad, my MW came today (diff one!!) and helped me latch him on, and it actually went much better so hopefully it'll work out. I am amazed at how much BFing is forced upon you at my hosp, stand your ground ladies and do what you feel comfortable with!!
EDIT: Lol SmartieI still havent been on facebook... I must announce!! I think OH said there was a few comments.
Fuzz: OH has been wonderful, he was great during labour... I tell you we have no secrets now... the sights he saw... the screaming he heard... poor bloke!!! He loves Theo to bits0 -
CONGRATULATIONS to all the new mummies!!!
Kitkat, the whole BF thing is forced isn't it? We had trouble for the first few weeks, and yet really weren't offered any support - other then them going on about breast being best. One MW even had a go because I used nipple shields for a while. Do what you feel is best for you and Theo - whatever that is. I am glad I stuck with it, but it wasn't without its moments.

Much better than giving your lad the acronym of KOK too;):rotfl:1.11.09 - debt = £45k:eek:

Huge congratulations Kitkat - glad motherhood is making up for the less than ideal birth - that's the scary bit how your nice plans for labour so quickly go out of the window.
Courgette - glad your voice was heard and they are happy to wait around at least for another week for baby courgette's appearance.
MV - I didn't think twice about drinking peppermint tea - had quite a lot early on to help with nausea. I also had lemon & ginger for the same reason. The only one I know we shouldn't be taking yet is raspberry leaf tea.
MOTM - Wow you're rapidly building up your netball team there! The nuchal scan is still not routinely offered on the NHS across the country so you are lucky its available in your area. As it looks at the bloods, scan and maternal age its the best picture you are going to get at that stage of the DS risk. But it is just that a risk factor. If you get a high result you still then need to decide whether to go with amnio or CVS. I was pleased to accept the test, as just a few years ago I would have automatically been suggested amnio because of my age, but with the bloods and nuchal scan I was given a much more accurate assessment which happened luckily to be low risk.We Made-it-3 on 28/01/11 with birth of our gorgeous DD.0
