MOTM - what would you do if the result showed you were high risk for Downs? Amniocentesis (with a 1% miscarriage risk)? If the baby did have Downs, what would you do?

We decided not to have it as we wouldn't have an abortion if the baby did have Downs and we didn't want to run the risk of miscarrying a healthy baby and didn't want to have a high risk result, do nothing, and worry the rest of the pregnancy.

We've talked and no matter what, we want to go ahead and have the babies. She wants the scan and i'm happy to do whatever she needs to get through the pregnancy.
    Congrats MOTM :j:j
You need to decide about scans and things for yourself. This was something we really struggled with - we were offered the quad test and decided against it but the weekend before I had a bleed and we changed our mind last minute and decided to have the test.
I think I thought it would put my mind at rest, but actually it came back as high risk and we were gutted. We were then offered an amnio to find out exactly if there was a problem. In the end, we decided that we wouldn't take any further action if we did find out anything was amiss and decided against the amnio, but for a while I felt like I'd ruined my pregnancy.
Of course, that's just my experience. Like the other poster (forgotten who it was) said, you need to decide what action if any you would take in the event of an outcome that you weren't wanting and then decide whether it was worth putting yourselves through the scan.
    Good luck!

OH wants to go ahead with it. I'm still not sure, but i'm not against it, so if it helps her, then we'll go ahead with it. I can see the pros and cons and my mind is a muddle, but she is rather insistant.

MOTM - I had the nuchal scan and it came back borderline for the measurement at the back of the neck, it was 3.4mm minimum - personally i think baby was just wriggling so much she couldn't get an accurate measurement. But because it came back higher than the normal measurement they offered my the amnio - declined it because like the others, wasn't going to affect my going through with the pregnancy either way :)

So still don't know if baby could have downs but at the next scan was more reassured because they could see facial features were normal and the heart was normal also which lessens the chance again of down's. but if she has it, then she has it, can't change it at all and wouldn't.

If you know that it won't change the outcome of the pregnancy, there probably isn't much point having it but its personal choice really. :)

It's not going to change the outcome of whether we want the babies, but OH wants the scan anyway. As above, i'm unsure and has worried me more than her.

MOTM-We had a high risk of DS with the triple test in 1st pregnancy and it caused an awful lot of stress. We declined the amnio. Baby was fine.
2nd preg, I have had a NT test privately and came back low risk.
I felt if I had a DS baby I would like to know risk before hand so I could get my head round it and also to prepare for after birth ie save more money in case I need extra time off or was unable to go back to work.
I do feel cross that the triple test is still performed in some areas when its not really that accurate and much more accurate tests available.

Congrats to all new births! Been a baby boom over last week!!

It's causing me stress.....not me carrying them though, so....I go with the flow. Pleased your DS was fine.

    Congrats to freebie and kitkat

    Congrats MOTM, double trouble eh?
I had the quad test and had an amnio because the result came back raised. We weren't so sure we'd continue with the pregnancy if it had come back positive.

Again. Twins are very happy they will be having baby twins. Now they will be big twins.

I've got a feeling your going to end up with 9 girls

Maybe a silly question, but what are the chances? I mean, is it my 'super swimmers' (term used on another thread) or is it to do with the female?

Hehe could be a mix of both!? Obviously your 'super swimmers';) have to find the target(s) so if there's only one target to hit it has to split at some point, think it's after fertilisation then it'll be down to the woman(you'll get identical twins). if your OH has just happened to release 2 eggs and 2 of your swimmer hit the jackpot then you're both as bad as one another and are showing off(fraternal twins) :D

So if my high school biology is right........its her fault your having twins and your fault if they're both girls:p:rotfl:

congrats re the twins MOTM, hope it's not too much of a shock for you both, though I guess you must've been semi expecting it.

We had the NT scan at 12 weeks, along with the blood tests. TBH it was just assumed we'd have it and I was happy to. Still not sure what we'd have done re an amnio, i think it's hard to say until you're in the situation but like lwcus we'd prefer to have known and like bunny couldn't say for certain whether we'd continue (i hate saying that but am being honest). I just think it's up to each individual couple, everyone has a different need for knowledge.

Well, maybe semi....I have twins, she has twin brothers, one of which has twins...still a bit of a shock mind.

I think I need a scan on my head. I'm missing out :p

Congrats (?) on the twins MOTM. I hope you get your boy.

Having a wallowing in misery day today. Been up with MS since 4am. Tried having something to eat (DH made some very tasty bread yesterday) but to no avail. It was unceremoniously rejected an hour later. Had a good ol self-pitying cry and called in sick to work. Now dehydrated again, but nothing is staying put yet, so having to have very small sips.

Will try and cheer up by midday!

    Me too!

I hope your day got better. 4am is a bit early :o

I'm now 8th on the list!!:eek: I'm slowly starting to feel a bit more "ready" for this life-changing event, and all the baby pictures I see make me want to hold mine, although I'm still scared of the responsibility!

MOTM - twins, how exciting (as well as daunting!)! I take it from your last post that they're non-identical twins?

Getting very close and exciting. :T I do hope you will graduate to the parents thread eventually (as I hope you all do), but for now, just relax ;)

Yes, both sets of twins are non identical, although you won't find a pair of non identical twins that look as alike as my 10yo's. Think Samanda from Big Brother a few years back (if you saw it) and they are like mini versions.
