Congratulations Freebie, Kitkat and Angel84! Glad to hear all went well...

Welcome Hitchins... I'll see if I can add you to the list.

Finally got my delivery from ebay! Won a huge bundle of baby clothes (about 30 things) for 99p. I'm really pleased - don't think I need to buy anything else (in fact I think I have way too many hats). It did take a month to be delivered because of hassle with the courier (our house isn't easy to find). I bought a couple of snowsuits on ebay too. I'm annoyed with my MIL though - when I showed them to her, she said she never dressed her son in secondhand clothes! I suspect that she and I will disagree about how I bring up her grandson...

Unfortunately my MS seems to have restarted - vomited in the shower yesterday and on my bike on the way to work today!

MOTM - what would you do if the result showed you were high risk for Downs? Amniocentesis (with a 1% miscarriage risk)? If the baby did have Downs, what would you do?

We decided not to have it as we wouldn't have an abortion if the baby did have Downs and we didn't want to run the risk of miscarrying a healthy baby and didn't want to have a high risk result, do nothing, and worry the rest of the pregnancy.

I was the opposite to Ejecoms. I knew I wouldn't have amnio, or abort but I still had the nuchal scan and bloods. At the end of the day though, you just get a risk assessment, and even a 1:5000 chance is one chance.

MOTM congratulations!!

i agree with ejecomms, it really is up to the individual. the nuchal scan/ triple blood test only show the *risk* of downs.

i didnt see the point of having it done because i wouldnt have a Amniocentesis test done for the defiante answer. and because i wouldnt have done anything about it if the baby did show to have downs. but it really is up to the individual, and even when i aksed the midwife what i should noticed i not she was very careful so as not to sway me either way

Congrats MOTM :j:j
You need to decide about scans and things for yourself. This was something we really struggled with - we were offered the quad test and decided against it but the weekend before I had a bleed and we changed our mind last minute and decided to have the test.
I think I thought it would put my mind at rest, but actually it came back as high risk and we were gutted. We were then offered an amnio to find out exactly if there was a problem. In the end, we decided that we wouldn't take any further action if we did find out anything was amiss and decided against the amnio, but for a while I felt like I'd ruined my pregnancy.
Of course, that's just my experience. Like the other poster (forgotten who it was) said, you need to decide what action if any you would take in the event of an outcome that you weren't wanting and then decide whether it was worth putting yourselves through the scan.

MOTM - I had the nuchal scan and it came back borderline for the measurement at the back of the neck, it was 3.4mm minimum - personally i think baby was just wriggling so much she couldn't get an accurate measurement. But because it came back higher than the normal measurement they offered my the amnio - declined it because like the others, wasn't going to affect my going through with the pregnancy either way

So still don't know if baby could have downs but at the next scan was more reassured because they could see facial features were normal and the heart was normal also which lessens the chance again of down's. but if she has it, then she has it, can't change it at all and wouldn't.

If you know that it won't change the outcome of the pregnancy, there probably isn't much point having it but its personal choice really.
