Competitions Discussion Thread Part 12

The problem I find with the Regulars Board is that there are loads of comps that are way past there sell by date and have closed years ago but the links are never sent to GAME OVER
and comps are locked so you can't post each daily, weekly, Monthly Answer and also update the prize details when they change
when the stickies on the main board are sorted out would it not be possible to have another set of Daily,Weekly and Monthly stickies on the main board which link up to the Regulars board
if this where to be done I'm sure that more people on the main board (albeit in a roundabout way) would visit the Regular section0 -
Reading all this it just sounds like people want to make people have to use the regulars board
(e.g. what Glad said about moving the chat/tab threads over there because they are popular - and i'm not saying that was the intention just reading back it seems more about how can we make regulars used more rather than how we can make them more consitent putting them on main). Could we not have poll or something to see whether people use it, whether people want to use it or how people would like to have stuff posted
(i'm not being overly serious btw)
2008: £783.12 - 2009: £6,401.15 - 2010: £4,230.61 - 2011: £8720 - 2012: £2,041.89
2013: £134.960 -

I would much prefer all competitions being together on the main board instead of there being sub-boards could the regular comps not be posted in sub-sections on the main board - btw I'm not being overly serious as well :rotfl:
I would imagine that nearly everyone who does every comp on the main board doesn't have time to visit the regular section0 -

Glad has taken on the very ardous task of checking which comps are still 'live' and moving the 'dead' ones to GO :A and also unlocking the live threads so hopefully the board should start to be improving already, but it is a very long process to get through all 35 pages.
I have a vague memory that the locking of the threads was like an extreme way to stop bumping, however, it's probably easier in that case for individual users (if they so wish) to set the board to the 'Thread Start Time' setting at the bottom of the page, so when things are bumped, with new answers/prizes, rather than new threads, it doesn't affect the way the board is ordered.0 -

They are seperate comps with different prizes and different end dates so if you did it with these it would mean that to avoid confusion all comp should be posted this way so any website that has regular comps should just be posted on one thread in the regulars section? so for example whattodowiththekids should have it's own thread with the comps updated every month, screenrush shoudl have a thread that is then updated every week... tbh i would hate that
tbh id love that, one thread to keep track of for each site so i can easily skip the sites i dont enter on and find the sites i want to enter. one thread for the bgs to move to go when it hits 1000/2000 posts whichever is the number instead of many threads.
i think though that comps like tab and chat which are guaranteed to have new answers every single week are slightly different than those on eg what to do with the kids who have multi comps but not necessarily released on the same day of every week without fail. thats where i would classify a regular as opposed to not....if it releases comps on the same day every day or week and the end date is pretty much guaranteed to be a set number of days after release then its a regular. dickinsons eg release comp on the show every day and end date can probs be worked out by x number of days after the show aired so = a regular. wttwtk = not regular as there is no specific pattern to the release and end dates of their comps. The problem I find with the Regulars Board is that there are loads of comps that are way past there sell by date and have closed years ago but the links are never sent to GAME OVER

glad is working through regs and removing old posts and looking into the locking threads issue.
dont see why we need more stickies on main to linktot he reg threads in regs....its easy to clcik on the reg forum and find them same as its easy to get to iwon i won which many people manage. if people dont want to go to regs and thus miss out on comps which are posted their because they are not linked from main then thats kinda their tough luck imo same as its my tough luck that i miss out on comps by not keeping up.0 -

Well done glad. That alone will be a HUGE improvement.:beer:0 -

Yeah, I'd agree that if any are posted this way then it should only be the ones that start/end on the same day/days every week/month.
There would be lots of problems if everything was posted this way, for example, it would be very very difficult to keep up to date with as if a comp gets mistakenly posted separately to the thread and in the meantime (before the separate one is merged) others get posted in the thread and we've already done those ones, it's possible to completely miss the other one that's been merged over, as the 'thanks' button would be the point of reference and we'd have thanked later ones.
Plus with some comps being posted with very short end dates it means checking every single thread that's been posted in on that day, every single day, and short end dates would be mixed in with long end dates.
Also, it's when to move to GO, as there are bound to be some comps still active in the thread when the move to GO is made.
So definitely it should only things with set end dates, and theres nothing to say that a thread couldn't be locked for posting, a new one added for new posts and then the old one sent to GO after the last competition has ended, as it would be something like E: 07/11, E: 14/11 and then E: 21/11, so after 21/11 everything would have ended and it could be GO'ed.0 -
I'm reading every post, but to save quouting so many, just a few thoughts
once I've worked through the reg board and only live comps are left there it should be quite a small board and easier to look through, but some of these do run for years so having them all on the main board would change the look of that altogether
having the regs unlocked would allow bumping but we deal with that on the main board so I think things would settle down once the board gets used more
a sticky linking to threads that can only be entered once but have multiple draws would be good (but where the theads should be I'm not sure) possibly on the main board as they are not regular entry comps
monthlies? possibly the main board with a new thread each month if the prize/question changes?? looking back at some threads posted in 2005 in regs, the links are live and the comps still running, some of them are entry to a draw for reg/sign up, so technically they are once only entry but have no end date (I'm getting confused now)
there aren't hundreds of them so a pm to a BG to move to GO when someone notices they've ended would work
if regs do have an end date and that is in the title using advanced search on titles only should bring it up with other results
I'm not sure why mag comps are posted in different ways? I was thinking of the ones that have a new thread each week
keep it coming though and thanks:T

hiya, the mag comps have different comps/puzzles/answers every week (think maybe that's why they get posted on main board) ?:o
even though they are regular comps,
i've never understood why tbh eitherplease be a responsible pet owner & spay/neuter your pets, too many strays & not enough homes for them sadly.0 -

now you know how new I am to this comping thingso this just me trying to get my head around things
to me the mag comps that come out weekly seem more my idea of a reg comp than a thread with a monthly entry into a draw that can only be entered once when you register or sign up for the email
so maybe if the regs board was used to post the mags comps in once a week more people would go over there to read them as they do now on the main board, the main board moves so quickly that the mags thread doesn't stay on the first couple of pages all week (it might do in the slower moving regs board) so everyone who follows it must have a way of searching for it, either by name of the reg OP or something in the title, the same search would find it whichever board it's inI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards.
