    Hello Mupette -
In the way one does, I was closing mse, but on a very slow computer which then revealed your thread, now read.
I wish you every success in regaining your licence, your freedom, your lifeline.
You[and many who have offered you substantive help] have made me feel very humble in my ability to do these things without thought, even if with pension only, tight, budget and bus pass[for how long now? - after further R4 ConDem doom this morning].
Keep the spirit of Toad alive as I do ...good luck!

  • My licence was revoked above 12mths ago because I have COMBAT P.T.S.D. after I went on a Drivers Speed Awarness Course in North Wales. I was told to wait 6 months before I could re-apply, which I did. First the Medical Questionaire forms were sent to my Psyciatrist who could not fill the forms out, said he did not know how. Took him months to do this. Then Med forms were sent to my Doctors in April (2010 ) this year, they could not fill the forms out until they phoned the DVLA, it has taken them until last week ( Aug 2010 ) to do this and they still have not sent the Med form back to the dvla ( phoned them today ). Wish I had known about a medical assesment from Motability last year, after 100's of phone calls to physiciatrist-dvla-doctors-dvla over and over again. I wasn't that mental before, but after all this, I could be :) Its been a nightmare without a car as my family live 110 miles away. Got a Mobility Scooter, this is ok if its fine weather. Use the Patient Transport Service, for trips to Hospital Appointments. Regards to all that are suffering without a car. Michael Hartley. Ex Royal Navy War Veteran Disabled. P.s. I know the DVLA Medical phone line is busy at all times, but I managed to get through after a few attempts, but for my doctors to take 4 months to get through, thats takin the ****/micky.

I know if I get refused my licence after my medical on Thursday I can appeal to the Sheriff Court and the Sheriff will decide. That a route that I may explore depending on what reports say if I get refused. As no doubt as it is Psychiatrists they will be a few 'opinions'.

It scares me stupid when I read that so many people who are taking very strong painkillers are still driving their cars.

On one thread you have people saying how bad they feel and that they filled out the DLA forms stating they feel dizzy and often fall over etc etc etc.
On another thread the exact same people are talking about driving!

If you cant drive after smoking a joint or downing two pints of lager......then noone should be driving if they take strong painkillers.

OP.....I dont know why you cannot drive although I am sure the DVLA are not taking licences from people for no good reason.

do you need a licence for a scooter? i know u need insurance if you are on the road.

i fear the places i need to get to maybe a bit far ie doctors (i just moved and they seemed best suited for me)

I worry about scooters, lots of drivers in bristol doesn't seem to care about them
Of course you need a licence....but only a provisional......if your licence has been taken away, you will not be able to use a scooter either.

I have been assessed by my regional mobility center a few times (Im back in September to try out WAVs) and the purpose of these centers is to help all physically disabled people who want to drive the means to allow them to drive, the aids available are amazing and it is true that if you have one controlable stump you can physically drive a car today.

There are many disabled people who will never be able to drive due to siezures etc. and that will never change but for purely physical disabilities its possible to learn/relearn to drive albe it very expensive but grants are avaialble to help with the costs.

Im sorry that you found my post offensive, it certainly wasnt meant as such but as support and information to muppette as to how to get her licence back.
My Mother is physically disabled and there is nothing on Earth that can help her to drive a car.....what an absolutely ridiculous thing to state!
You are not in any position to decide who can or cannot drive....and giving some people false hope is not a nice thing to do.

some painkillers can affect you but a lot dont depends on the person, i dont drive atm waiting to hear on dla over the higher rate for a car but i no myslef i wouldnt drive if i felt i wasnt capable of doing so like iam sure many people would,

also all medication is on the applacation form to dvla

its the boy racers that shouldnt be allowed to drive for many people a car is freedom because they can get to places they couldnt normally get to and gives them there lives back to a degree

i dont no the difference between left and right if i was giving directions to someone else but yet i no where iam going myslef, so shpuld i be allowed to drive
