I believe the Brigadoon branch does a good fixed term savings account - unfortunately, the term is 100 years ...:D

It's virtually identical to RBS's offering, however you will have the added advantage of full branch access.
Does that mean it comes with a £2,000 interest free over-draft for an indefinite period post graduation, or did I just get lucky!I left university in 2006, did all the right things and got my account changed to a Graduate Royalties account, but they have never wound down my interest free over-draft, not that I'm complaining.
Since then I took advantage of the fantastic graduate loan they were offering at the time (base rate +2.5%, shortly before the base rate crashed, result) and they invited me to join RBS Private Banking. Suffice to say that, in me, they have a very satisfied customer.
I'm looking at moving my account north of the border. Don't want to go down the re-opening a new account online option, as I imagine I'd lose the Private Banking perks. I called up and spoke to Direct Banking and was told, quick as a flash that I could transfer my account but the guy didn't know how, and said to call the 0800 number tomorrow. Tried again calling Private Banking and they said all I needed to do was a draft a letter with my account details and the details of the branch I'd like to move to, and then to send this to my current branch. I'll draft such a letter at work tomorrow.

This sounds too good to be troll.Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.0 -
Au contraire Jambosans, it's absolutely true. I don't for one moment believe I've been anything other than lucky (on the over-draft point) but everything else was as open to me as it was to anyone else.
They have ditched the variable rate graduate loan now though for a fixed rate, for which you can barely blame them. However it was still available in H2 2008 when I applied.
To return to the OT, the letter I've justed posted to my branch is requesting a transfer to Edinburgh St Andrew Square branch, sort code 83-06-08.0 -
My friend decided to use the sort code of his current branch and just change the 16- to 83- so it would be easy to remember.0

Are RBS taking a longer time than normal to open the accounts?
I apllied a couple of weeks ago, got the letter back to sign. Then i have heard nothing. Is mine new application lost in the post or otherwise.0 -

Was your application really "weeks ago"? If they don't receive the signed application form in 28 days, the offer will expire, so I would call them on the number, with the reference you have on the remaining part of the letter that you should have kept, to see if they received all your documentation.
It could be that the Santander sale made some branches more popular targets for opening accounts, thus busier than usual.
One more possible reason for their delay is that they apparently are in the process of changing the T&Cs:
http://www.rbs.co.uk/personal/current-accounts/g2/terms.ashx
The "Interest Paying Current Account" is being renamed to "Current Account" (yes, that means no more interest paid to customers), effective on 22 September. Maybe they took more time to process that change to make sure all forms are correct, etc...Enjoy the silence...0 -

Just to add, if it hasn't already, that London Drummonds branch 160038 is being treated as a Scottish branch and is being retained by RBS.0
