I'd rather not ally for a new one, simply because my current has all my direct debits set up and I don't fancy changing them all over!

I will give my branch a telephone call next week when they are next open and request to speak to a branch manager.

I for one, do not intend to be part of Santander!

You have no option but to apply for a new account.

You need to apply for that new account first.

Sorry, but I think you may be incorrect.

I have been advised on here, and read by other RBS customers, they have called them and requested a branch transfer form and moved there current account to a Scottish branch, I don't think 20+ people can be wrong, so think I stick to the information that I have been given already.

    Thank you though :o

Why not call RBS on 08002100214 and ask them to send you the paper work out in the post :) They wont transfer your account till next year, I was told this on the phone today they are looking at around June/July. The lady on the phone said they have had loads of requests.

I'm not wrong. A new account does not appear without being applied for whichever way you do it.

    No Chambta is wrong

You can either transfer your account to a scottish branch, or open a new one, for me opening a new one was easier:)

    Each to thier own!!
    For everthing else there's mastercard.
    For clampers there's Barclaycard.

You are both right. Moving your account is the same thing as opening a new account anyway; it's just that the bank does all the work for you.

If you fill in a transfer form to "move" your account, i.e. change to a different branch, the bank will have to open a new account at the new branch, complete with new sort code and account no. and transfer all your standing orders and direct debits over to the new account, and close the old one down. This is exactly what you would have to do yourself if you opened a new account online. No difference whatsoever. It's impossible to move to a different branch without changing your account details.

    From the RBS FAQ website...
    http://rbsbranchinformation.co.uk/Home/Faq
    Q.

What will happen to my RBS personal account if I live in England or Wales but I opened my account in Scotland?

    A.

As an RBS customer with an account held in Scotland you are not be affected by the sale and will remain an RBS customer. You will continue to have the same facilities. We are reviewing a number of options for providing branch access to our customers. This will ensure that, upon transfer of the branches which are part of the sale to the new owner, you will continue to have access to a branch service that meets your needs.

...so presumably they are looking at enabling Natwest branches to service RBS accounts or less likely open some more RBS branches south of the border.

I'm not wrong. How can it be transferred without a new account being opened!?
