    No Chambta is wrong

You can either transfer your account to a scottish branch, or open a new one, for me opening a new one was easier:)

    Each to thier own!!

Thank you, I thought this was correct.

I will be telephoning RBS next week, will post my findings on the subject

Thank you too that offered there advice :)

I'm not wrong. How can it be transferred without a new account being opened!?

Because those that choose to transfer will *NOT* have thier accounts sold to satan.
    For everthing else there's mastercard.
    For clampers there's Barclaycard.

Chambta if you complete the simple form asking to transfer your account to a scottish branch all the work is done for you. If this involves a new account (and I assume it will) there appears to be no application process.

The application is done for you. An account cannot be opened without it being processed by someone.

Transferring an account = new account - same facilities - presumably no credit reference search

Opening additional account via online banking = new account - same facilities - credit reference search

So the question would be whether the behaviour score is affected and has to build up again from scratch

It seems that customers with more than one current account under the same customer ID number have just one score regardless of the number of accounts

So behaviour scores appear to be based on customer conduct rather than conduct of the individual accounts

When branches close , surely accounts are transferred to other branches seamlessly

Woolwich transferred to Barclays resulting in accounts being moved to Barclays branches , this did not result in any change to the behaviour score and as far as the CRA's are concerned it is the same account , reporting status codes with the original Woolwich account start date

Internal scoring is unaffected by opening and using a new current account.
  • What do you suggest for students with RBS Student Accounts? I will be graduating next June.

I do have a normal (non-student) current account with A+L and previously had one with Abbey. I really abhor Santander. Hence want to remain with RBS where possible.

It looks like I will need to do a transfer, as opposed to 're-opening' a new Student account right?

the transfer of branches is unlikely to happen before next June so you could wait until you graduate and then open a RBS graduate account alternatively you could open a Scottish branch RBS account now or complete a transfer form now.

RBS state they expect the sale to take 12 to 18 months to complete. I would assume that the transfer of any accounts will take place towards the end of this timescale, by which point you will have graduated.

If you wish to stay with the RBS Group (but you're not fussed about the brand) I would consider a NatWest Graduate Account. It's virtually identical to RBS's offering, however you will have the added advantage of full branch access. The only downside I would imagine is you can't simply "upgrade" to the RBS Graduate Royalties.
Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.
