I'm currently opening an account at RBS Jedburgh which isn't very far away, but I'm keeping my Newcastle account to see what happens with Santander. If they bring back the Williams & Glyns name I might keep the account as that's what it was when I first opened it. If they brand it as Santander with new sort codes then I'll close it. I've told them that via their website but I don't think it'll make any difference.

I've opted for the Oban branch due to historic family connections with that area. Apparently centuries ago (so the story goes) my ancestors were driven out of the area for sheep rustling. If that's true or not I don't know :D

Yes, it's true and they have long memories around Oban....

You shouldn't have any problem paying money in via NatWest, but bear in mind you'll have to use a paper pay-in book and everything (cash included) will take a few days to appear on your account.

As for taking money out, you'll be restricted to using cash machines.

So if you rarely use the branch, then you'll be fine. If you need regular branch access then you would be better to changing to NatWest.

I read on a flyer I picked up in a RBS branch they are looking in to how they will enable RBS customers of a Scottish branch who live in England/Wales to transact business. Maybe they will be able to open a RBS till in Natwest branches.

    I have a little problem.

I went into my branch today, and requested a branch account transfer form.

I was asked why did I want one, I explained because I didn't want to go over to Santander Bank, and I wanted to change my account to a Scottish branch.

One person told me I need to ring a Scottish branch, fair enough, I'll do that when I get a free moment.

However, I asked another member of staff, who claims I can't transfer my account to ANY other branch, I have to close my current account then GO TO one of the branches I want my account to be held at, and open an account there, with ID etc.
Is this correct? - I don't believe it, but wanted advice regards such information.

I think my local branches may have been advised to 'try' and hold on to as many customers for Santander by the way the member of staff tried to say there was NO WAY I could just transfer my account over.

I don't use my branch very often, only to pay in therefore I just pay in a few days before I need it to show in a NatWest Account :)

Branches won't have been told to try and stop people transferring.

What you were told was absolute nonsense as you can open an account at any RBS branch from any other.

Can anyone give me details/ a number to ring in Scotland for a RBS branch to point me in the right direction? :o

I thought it was rubbish - I just couldn't be bothered to argue, so said 'Okay' and left.

I'd call your own branch again and ask to speak to the branch manager.

Explain you've been misinformed by a member of their staff and wish to arrange to see someone in their branch to deal with your simple request.

If you use internet banking you can apply online for an additional current account and there is an option to select a branch of your choice.

The simplist thing to do is what i did.

Apply for a new account online (if you use thier online banking, you wont have to fill in many details etc)

The will be a section which asks to select branch (will be defaulted to your own)

Simply change this one to any scottish one of your choice:)

    Done and dusted!
    For everthing else there's mastercard.
    For clampers there's Barclaycard.

I'd rather not ally for a new one, simply because my current has all my direct debits set up and I don't fancy changing them all over!

I will give my branch a telephone call next week when they are next open and request to speak to a branch manager.

I for one, do not intend to be part of Santander!
