I have a graduate account with RBS with a sizeable interest free OD which I use mainly to get interest as savings although sometimes for cashflow. As mentioned by someone else in the thread, the interest free amount has not reduced at all while I've held it and tbh I'd like to transfer this account while drawing as little attention to it as possible!! A lot of people mention setting up new accounts north of the border but that wouldn't work with my account. I've not heard anything about the sale in ages and had forgotten about it but I would like to keep my account if at all possible. I'm very sad that my account is currently based 10 miles from the border (many miles from me) and want to give it a gentle push over the other side. How should I get the ball rolling?

I phoned helpline and ask for a transfer from from RBS. It arrived BUT says the transfer will not happen now because they are producing new transfer forms!!! and will be done before the move to Santander.
BUT I do not wish to wait 1 month or perhaps 6 months I want to transfer with the next couple of weeks.
Lady from Gretna branch of RBS said she has contacted Head Office and they say can only transfer vis this Sale transfer form.

I have initiated a complaint why should it take perhaps months??

What are my options re getting round this blocking tactics??

My RBS account is in England?

Open a new current account online and choose which branch you want the account.

It may credit check you or it may not depending on your internal scoring with RBS.

From memory I think the cut off date for transfers is the 26/01/12.

So any transfer requests after this date will not be accepted.

    I have a little problem.

I went into my branch today, and requested a branch account transfer form.

I was asked why did I want one, I explained because I didn't want to go over to Santander Bank, and I wanted to change my account to a Scottish branch.

One person told me I need to ring a Scottish branch, fair enough, I'll do that when I get a free moment.

However, I asked another member of staff, who claims I can't transfer my account to ANY other branch, I have to close my current account then GO TO one of the branches I want my account to be held at, and open an account there, with ID etc.
Is this correct? - I don't believe it, but wanted advice regards such information.

I think my local branches may have been advised to 'try' and hold on to as many customers for Santander by the way the member of staff tried to say there was NO WAY I could just transfer my account over.

I don't use my branch very often, only to pay in therefore I just pay in a few days before I need it to show in a NatWest Account :)
What they told you is rubbish, on the transfer form that I have I have to sign to say that no member of staff tried to get me to transfer. I suppose it was forced on them as part of the sale agreement that they couldn't poach customers. But to lie is a bit much. You can request a transfer form from their site. I'm in two minds about transferring as I can't imagine the day to day practicalities. I've been with RBS all my life so don't want to leave them either. I don't use checks and haven't been into my branch in over 10 years so I can't see the big deal for now.

I'm the same... had a letter acknowledging request. Phoned to enquire about progress and they say they are being transferred "in batches" before 2nd half of year and won't go to Santander in the meantime.
