I'm personally now at 160038 (London, Drummonds). You get a distinctive cheque book too with a very good London address too for those impressed by that sort of thing.

A word of warning though, closing an account you've had for many years and starting fresh with a new current account will have a detrimental effect on your internal assessment when it comes to things like pre-assessed overdraft limits etc.

Isn't that branch being sold to Santander?

No. There are two branches in London that have a separate brand and cater for the most part for high net worth individuals- Drummonds on Charing Cross and Child and Co on Fleet Street- that are not being sold to Santandire.
...but they cant be that fussy who they accept as customers- they accepted me!

I'll save Winston Churchill, Jane Austen, J. M. W. Turner and Alan Turing.

They don't get the chance to choose. The branch can be selected when opening an account online the same as any other.
  • If you select the Drummonds branch on the RBS site, do you get Drummonds branded debit card and cheque book? Or are they just the usual RBS ones but the the Drummonds branch address on your cheques and statements?

The cheque book is different but the card isn't. Not sure about the statements as I'm paperless.

I specifically asked RBS the question about any impact on my credit rating when I asked them to move my RBS account from the English branch to a Scottish branch.

I received a verbal assurance, that RBS will make sure that there will not be any negative effect on my credit rating or account history etc. but I guess we will have to wait to see if that is true.
Since I am letting RBS handle the account move process, I see no reason why they would not add the appropriate notes onto the new account, to show my past 25+ years of history with RBS.

When I asked for a form to switch to Child & Co I was told all decisions on opening an account at Child & Co (and presumably Drummonds) are made by a manager who has the right to decline any application if they wish. Are you saying that is incorrect?

  • I phoned helpline and ask for a transfer from from RBS. It arrived BUT says the transfer will not happen now because they are producing new transfer forms!!! and will be done before the move to Santander.
BUT I do not wish to wait 1 month or perhaps 6 months I want to transfer with the next couple of weeks.
Lady from Gretna branch of RBS said she has contacted Head Office and they say can only transfer vis this Sale transfer form.

I have initiated a complaint why should it take perhaps months??

What are my options re getting round this blocking tactics??

My RBS account is in England?

If you're not prepared to wait for RBS to transfer you, you'd be best opening a new account, either at a Scottish RBS branch or an English branch of Natwest
