Someone kicked my car whilst driving

Hi all
I was driving to a meeting this week and was turning left at a green light. I was driving very slow as i was going round a corner - a pedestrian stepped out into the road without looking. He then saw me and must have been angry I got in his way and so kicked my car with all his strength. I was too shocked to stop or know what to do at the time - not to mention scared off him. Anyway my question is - is this something to bother reporting to the police? I had a quote to get it fixed today and it will be a few hundred for a patch up job.
Any thoughts?
Its makes me so mad that someone can do this and there is nothing i can do about it but take it and then shell out for the damage!!

It might be worth reporting, not as they'll do anything for you (Dixon of Dock Green is but a fading memory) but he just might be a claimsRus type who falsely accuses you of hit and run, so worth covering the bases.
Probably best you didn't stop the twerp sounds like he's not worth giving the time of day to. Hopefully he'll give a skip lorry a kick next time and break his leg.0 -
Thanks for advice didn't think about the possibility of it coming back on me !!! It was def not safe to stop seeing as he proved to be irrational and violent!!0

He has committed Criminal Damage, report the matter to the Police.
Also, if it had been me, I'd have jammed the brakes on and got and out given the guy a kick!
What right does he have to damage your car or anyone's for that matter?0 -
You need to inform your insurer - the third party may have a different view of this (ie you drove off without stopping after striking him)
Also make clear to the police why you didn't stop. And tell them ASAP - if the pedestrian has reported you, you will be seen as not having reported this (which you are supposed to do straightaway if you couldn't stop at the time of the incident because of your fear for your personal safety)0 -

Could be seen as OP not reporting it? :rotfl:
This plank kicked her car - which is criminal damage.
The Police are not stupid, they will see the imprint on the body is from a 'kick' and any claim by this plank will be rejected, instantly!
I'd have got out as I say and asked him what the problem was, and seen if it was man enough to say his problem to my face rather than kick my car - what a sad guy.
As for insurance, I wouldn't report it unless you intended to claim, which if you did claim for this, you will lose your NCD0 -
Thanks all for the advice , I have reported the incident and explained that i did not report it straight away as I did not think they could do anything about it. I'll give my insurer a call too.
Sassy - I was so shocked he did it by the time it sank it i was 20 meters ahead on a one way slip road to an inner ring road. Also was too scared of him as a female on my own. I am confident that from the foot mark and whole on my car its clear what happened.
What is wrong with this world eh!0 -

Glad you have done it by the book
As to your highlighted statement - I do not know.
Some idoit tried to over take me while I was doing 30 in a 30 zone today, by going on the wrong side of the road!! - Needless to say, I prevented his overtake, good timing to, a Police car was coming the other way, he pulled back after he knew I'd prevented his overtake and whipped down another street after seeing the Police car, they turned round and think they went after him!0 -
There are some idiots on the road. It makes me so mad when they drive breaking the speed limit especially passing flowers laid there to remember a child that has been killed.
Feel better now I know I have done everything right. Not claiming off insurance no point by the time you pay the excess and lose ncb0 -

You would respond to damage to property by offering physical violence against a person? Some idoit tried to over take me while I was doing 30 in a 30 zone today, by going on the wrong side of the road!! - Needless to say, I prevented his overtake, good timing to, a Police car was coming the other way, he pulled back after he knew I'd prevented his overtake and whipped down another street after seeing the Police car, they turned round and think they went after him!
Exactly what did you do to prevent his overtake? Did you unilaterally decide his overtaking (which tends to involve using the wrong side of the road - that's pretty normal) was inappropriate and manouevre to block it? If so, you are a dangerous driver.
To the OP, just a question - did you indicate when turning?0 -

I have the right to defend property of mine which is in the process of being damaged and would do just that.
I did not 'block it' as you state, I merely sped up by 3-4 MPH preventing him getting in front.
No where in the highway code does it state ANYONE is allow to overtake on a standard two way street by going on the wrong side of the road.
I will not allow someone to push in front of me, while I have been waiting and he wants to push in front - may be you find that acceptable, I personally don't.
The Police went after this guy, seems like they also find his actions unacceptable - this as well the fact that he attempted a overtake with a car behind me, which also prevented his overtake, meaning he had to drop back two cars!
Do not call me a dangerous driver thank you, unless you have evidence (Solid) 100% evidence as you may well find yourself defending a claim of Libel!
The only dangerous driver is one who attempts to over take on a standard road, while entering oncoming traffic including a Police car, meaning he clearly is plain stupid or did not see the on coming traffic, I would place my bets on the latter.0
