I have to say that out of the amount of customers we serve each day, we get a variation of both current mac users, and switchers, and the thing the !!!!!!' people off the most virus, and crashing windows. The costs of finding a equivilant PC with the same level of software in the box, and the design of the machine, of you look at the iMacs is hard to find, even the sony stuff is still £300 more expensive.
Amen to that! This is one thing a hard-core Windows user will never experience.... the liberation of not having to Install/Update Anti-virus software, spyware software, fix/clear-your-registry software. Carrying out regular scans.... Why? Because they won't swallow their pride. Get out of your Windows world people, and at least TRY something different before you knock it.

I'm actually a C programmer, but I code asp.net all day long. I do this on my mac, with a remote desktop or vnc connection to Windows 2003 servers. But thats enough Windows for me, thanks! I manage FreeBSD servers (IMHO, perhaps the most stable OS in the world..). I've used Windows for years, so don't call me a mac fan-boy. I highly doubt many of you Windows users could say you have used OS X... so perhaps you should actually TRY it, before you engage in arguments about something you've never actually even used.

Ever tried to play a game made this year on the Mac? The five you can choose from make a great weeks worth of entertainment.

Before you ask, I'm on a mac :D

P.S - There is no way I'm going to pay for a Leopard update. Apple already ripped me off enough for Tiger! If only I had known all the additional features included Screensavers and Backgrounds!

I think you're all wrong. Amiga OS had the potential to beat the rest but sadly through total mismanagement the hardware side died and took the OS with it (although it's still being developed after all this time, a great compliment to the original concept and the user base).
Sadly though, Windows is still my main OS as it's so embedded and offers the best compatibility with the software I want to use (and hardware for that matter).

Kind of a big assumption really. I've used macs, don't like using them, only use windows because it is the most convenient for me. Does that make me a hardcore windows user? Well my favourite operating system is RISC OS which I think the same of as Dammam thinks about Amiga OS. I think what put people on the offensive is the tone of the OP and the post topic which is a stereotypical hardcore mac hyperbole. Why do the hardcore mac users think any perceived attack on macs or mac os must be by hardcore windows users? There are more os's than just those two, and it's the other operating systems that actually tend to be the real innovators. Both Microsoft and Apple are copycats, the important thing is how well they implement their versions of other people's ideas and innovations. And I'm sick of the whole "how prolific viruses are" argument which has got very little to do with the technical aspects of an operating system and all to do with how big a market share an OS has. The bigger the target the more it attracts.

I wouldn't speak too soon. A virus can effectively be written for any operating system. Windows has such a majority user base it's the common target. I can't see OS X getting many viruses, but it's not out of the question. Also the release of Vista may change the way viruses are written and work.

I haven't actually seen many people (or anyone in fact) knock OS X in this thread... I personally use quite regularly, have to as part of testing the applications we write. Like you most of my work revolves round .Net (or Java) so I'm mainly restricted to the Windows environment, but it's not a choice I didn't want to make.
I'm actually a C programmer, but I code asp.net all day long. I do this on my mac, with a remote desktop or vnc connection to Windows 2003 servers.

Very strange way to develop... A virtual pc might be a better idea.

Doesn't mean you're not a fan-boy just because you've used Windows. I'm not saying you are, but it doesn't mean you aren't. I'm a split user. I use Windows due to the development environment, I know how to handle it, and gaming. And then the other extreme, I use Linux.

I agree there! However, some people cant accept apple is not the be all and end all and interpret anything other than this as critisism. I use linux or windows, and think both have some big advantages over macs. However I accept macs have their purpose too, in fact I am itching to buy a new style iPod shuffle!

As for the link above about the populatity of Macs, if they were bigger than windows, some of the mac fans would be gutted!

Kind of off topic, but do you like it? I love my old style (1st Gen) Shuffle, but it's annoying they've changed the design. You now need the dock to connect it up to a computer, which makes it less mobile. I love the fact that my Shuffle acts as a memory stick that can play music and that I can plug it in anywhere without the need for a lead or dock.

I do like the new finish on it though. Think I'll be sticking with a 1gb 1st Gen for £25 on eBay if I need a new one.

  • It sounds stupid, but its the clip! I have a couple of mp3 players, good players but awkward for the gym so the idea of cliping one direct to my shirt in the gym is great! I will put a few high tempo songs on it and burn some calories. I wouldnt use it for data transfer, so hopefully the cradle thing would not be a problem.

ps, never used a shuffle before so cant comment on the differences.

I'm with wolfman, i got my shuffle to complement my iPod and also because it made such a handy memory stick. The new one reminds me of the radio / remote for the iPod. It does look good but for me kinda misses the point of the original one.
