Why do you people even bother to argue about this???

Windows Vista is the new version of Windows and will become a neccesary piece of kit for the future to stay up with times and software. When Microsoft stop support for the full XP range in the next 2-3 years you will need to upgrade to stay ahead of viruses and security hacks. If people think Vista is such a waste of time and so expensive then get Linux or a Mac. Nobody is forcing you to stay with microsoft.... Just get an alternative.

I have been using the RC1 now for 4 days and it is still a great OS.. Its a lot improved on Beta2 but also has lost a few features I really liked. I for one will be upgrading to Vista when it comes out .. this is the reason I am leaving buying a new computer until they begin shipping with it.

It's been done before. Typical Apple fan-boy post.

If you're happy with overpriced hardware, and a controlled and restricted environment then that's ok. Me, I'll be sticking with Vista (when it arrives) and Linux and my custom built Core Duo.

  • Rubbish - Macs are now better priced than Dell machines!

Just look at the Mac Pro... its about £600 cheaper than a similar-spec Dell!
  • vista and leopard are both going to be great OS. Its not really fair to say vista is copying all osx ideas (however vista has borrowed a lot of ideas) as some features in leopard are copying windows xp like time machine which is just a graphical system restore.

i will be getting both operating sytems on my soon to be delivered imac, thank you bootcamp
  • Any serious geek owns at least one Mac. Any half-serious geek is thinking about acquiring one :D
  • Any geek owns a linux box.. not a f**king mac !!!!!! lol!

(And yes I know MAC is based on unix as the windows kernel, but still... its more pure unlike commercial OS. Only a wannabe geek owns a MAC ;) )

  • I disagree... OS X is based on the kernel and userland of FreeBSD 5.

And BSD is more geek than you'll ever get from Linux! :D

(Plus, Macs have the advantage of being able to run the Creative Suite).
  • quote from apple:

"Don’t let its elegant and easy-to-use interface fool you. Beneath the surface of Mac OS X lies an industrial-strength UNIX foundation hard at work to ensure that your computing experience remains free of system crashes and compromised performance. Time-tested security protocols in Mac OS X keep your Mac out of harm’s way."

:) Most BSD uses Unix anyway - its just a runtime environment afaik...
