The initial online application WILL sound positive as the credit check and other enquiries are not completed until the signed application forms are returned.
If they say NO (takes 48hrs on average) then seriously try an appeal you would not regret it and I am being serious now.
As for me applying to the Coventry, I honestly have no need for such basic facilities and that is not being nasty, just factual.
This is how I sse the Coventry and many website reviews would back this up......

If rejected by First Direct it's a SMALL step up from from a BASIC bank account.

You may not have any need but I am just throwing down the gauntlett and for a bit of fun. Maybe you don't like a challenge?

The Cov is tough and so is FD you claim. Would be interesting to see if you meet their criteria which is clearly uber stiff without any appeal. Equally how tough is FD on a Cov person whose account does not report to a CRA.

I love a challenge but where lies the actual challenge? I GAIN (sorry wrong wording) don't gain anything that any high street bank cannot better.
A £250 overdraft has absolutely no appeal whatsoever in considering ANY bank, the savings rates are abysmal and an insult (FD pays 5% for regular savers), internet banking is barely functional and poor, cheque books not an option, internal scoring non existant as credit cards not available and mortgage rates average. Where is the advantage offered?
YOU on the other hand, gain award winnnig customer service, free overdraft (needed or not) top class savings rates, access to preferential and pre-approved credit cards and loans. Any queries you can call a REAL person 24hrs a day/365 days of the year.
If you truly believe that the Cov is for the financially astute then you need to wake up and smell the coffee :p
The Coventry do not come close in any respect other than self protracted claims of exclusivity amongst their rather small following.

I guess the challenege to me is you saying that I am sub-prime and as such (according to your opinion) would not be eligible to go with FD. The challenge for you (and interesting for me) is you are not sub-prime and regardless of whether the facilites offered by the Cov in your eyes are an attractive banking package it is interesting to see if someone who is "above-prime" (what's the opposite of sub-prime??) can actually meet their *tough* criteria for acceptance immediately.

You have the old card! They do not issue those anymore.

The new ones look like this:

Yes but the suspended issuing of the debit card, to much riff raff coming in lol

I thought it was call save money manager 1 that was originally without the debit card, but call save money manager II that came with it. the manager II came with visa debit, I have 3 of these accounts along with my first. the debit cards are all the same.

Call save manager II is no longer offered because it was a trial wasn't it?

Receive a letter this morning turning me to down so I have filled an envelope with 6 months of bank statements and payslips and my award letters for Tax Credits and DLA. See what happens, eh?
  • I don't understand why they are way to selective for their accounts yes they have a good reputation but certain people have flawless or bloody brilliant credit history and are still rejected!!!!!

    ODD!

As we've been saying if you do not have almost perfect credit rating forget appealing with coventry. they say no. karatedragon owns his own home which is why i think he won his appeal, i paid £30,000 into a saving account with them. nowadays they are stricter.

appealing means you have to provide stuff that you didn't provide on the initial application so if you said you earn £10,000 then sending in statements showing this wouldn't change anything. If you have additional savings or own your home, then it is worth appealing. Just sending proof of what they already know will do nothing.
